UT Chemical Engineers - What is CHE 102?

CHE 102 Introduction to Chemical Engineering. It’s only 1 hour, and it says it isn’t a degree requirement. I couldn’t seem to find any information about it on the internet. What is it like, what do I do? Is it an easy A?

Its a class where they invite professors in the ChemE department to lecture over some of the research they’re doing, what ChemE’s do in industry, etc. Sometimes you guys have small “mini group” projects to make random posters about ChemE stuff. I think its a pass/fail class that doesn’t effect your GPA (not 100% sure…)

It is indeed a pass/fail class so it will not affect your GPA, and you are correct that it is pass/fail.

In my opinion, if you are new to college and if your first semester’s schedule isn’t too rigorous, I’d consider taking it. If you’re transferring or have a difficult schedule your first semester, then I’d consider skipping it.

To clarify, I believe there is no HW or tests in this class. It is entirely based on participation and attendance, and a group project they throw in mid-semester.

No more mini-projects – there is just one group project that is due at the end of the semester. No homework other than that. It’s a very useful class, and I feel like if I didn’t take it, I’d be lost in the CHE department as far as knowing important people, recognizing classes, etc.
