Anyone have anything to say about UT-Tyler or UTD? Opinions, experiences, hearsay?

UT Dallas beats UT Tyler is graduation rates and student test scores. I know someone with a daughter at UT Dallas and has been very happy with her experience. Lots of new construction, activities, free travel passes, etc. Very strong in the technical areas.

Thanks for the info on UTD! What do you mean by “free travel passes”? Is your friends daughter on scholarship? Wondering about the claims on web site that remaining cost after Academic Honors Scholarship will be about $4,250 per year…sounds too good to be true…

I think she has free train and maybe bus passes. I know she did get quite a bit of financial aid and it did include some scholarships. As for the scholarships, it’s one way for them to get their SAT scores up. The scholarship you’re referring to has an average of almost 1500 for CR and M only so I don’t think it’s too good to be true.

My S has been awarded the Academic Honors Scholarship and I believe its value, just wondering if they are underestimating total cost. For instance, I know at some other schools the fees are high, and they neglect to include them in the costs.

My oldest is at UTD on an AES scholarship and my middle dd will be joining her there next year on an AES scholarship.

There is actually quite a bit to do on campus. It isn’t a heavy party school like some others, but there are always things going on.

All students get free DART passes (bus and monorail).

My oldest hasn’t taken advantage of many of the offerings there aside from the anime convention that was held on campus along with meeting some of the development team from The Croods. She loved both of those events and they were free to students.

My middle dd is excited about the weekly anime club they have.

My oldest is majoring in Arts&Technology and my middle is majoring in Neuroscience.

My brother got a full ride to UTD with a 32 on his ACT and loves it

My son graduated from Plano Senior High School and many of their best students went to UTD. It is very strong academically.

UTD is better than Tyler.
