Utah State student dies of alcohol poisoning: frat and sorority charged

<p>"LOGAN, Utah - A fraternity and sorority at Utah State University were charged with felony hazing after an 18-year-old freshman pledge died of alcohol poisoning.</p>

<p>The school’s chapters of the Sigma Nu fraternity and Chi Omega sorority were each charged Friday with one count of third-degree felony hazing for their involvement with the death of Michael Starks. Prosecutors also filed misdemeanor hazing charges against 12 students, including the chapter president of Sigma Nu.</p>

<p>What a tragic story. My daughter showed me an email from her college that said just at the past 2 events on campus that 18 students were taken to the hospital for alcohol poisoning and if it continued they would ban these activities. It made me question if I was really right preaching absolutely no alcohol till college. I wonder if these kids have no idea how much is too much and what can be done to prevent it. I know mine didn’t drink in high school but now I worry about overdoing it at a party. She had to take an alcohol awareness course which did nothing because she called me after her friend over drank at a party and asked me what to do and obviously didn’t know she drank way too much. I don’t know what the answer is.</p>
