UVA and VT what are my chances?

Im looking to transfer to UVA or VT from University of Arizona. I had a 3.9 high school GPA and was waitlisted from VT and denied from UVA. In college I have a 4.0, am my sororities Community Service chair, in the Philanthropy committee, have a job and volunteer every 2 weeks at my animal shelter. My SAT was 1190. Any idea what my chances are?

Ok, you are in college now and have a 4.0 after one year (or more)? Or, is your 4.0 just one semester or quarter?

Just one semester

If you were waitlisted at VT, you probably have a decent chance to transfer to it with the 4.0 for one semester.

Depends on your grades in college? Were you a good student? Also depends on your classes you took. Did you take AP/IB classes in highschool? What is your current major?

UVA and VT are very different schools, though they’re both in Virginia. Does one not stand out more than the other? Are you from Virginia? Why are you thinking of transferring after only one semester?

presumably, OP is a Virginia resident. A lot of information is left out. However, if she was wait listed at VT, she should have a reasonable chance of being accepted as a transfer. UVA is much harder to get into, and her SAT scores seem almost out of range for it.

I’m not sure about declaring majors, but VT’s Engineering and CS programs are highly desirable, so they might be more selective on applicants. But if at U of A now and after one semester expecting strong grades in science/engineering classes, then a transfer into VT should be feasible. UVa is definitely stronger and more desirable in Liberal Arts.
