UVA Echols / URochester / Brandeis???

at that level, you are going to get a great education wherever you go.

I do not go to UVa, I almost applied to UVa (because of the Echols program) because it seemed similiar to the way that Brown is set up, which appealed to me at the time (and still does)…the kids at UVa are smart, and the Echols Scholars…brilliant

you’ll get a wonderful education there, have a good time socially, and be in a good place for whatever you chose to do afterward.

Congratulations. UVa would seem like the hands-down choice even without the added perks of the Echols program. It is interesting that you also got full tuition, since Echols isn’t a tuition scholarship in itself, more about academic and registration advantages and special housing used as incentives to get strong students to enroll. Did you get full need-based aid or some merit-based scholarship that is will simply support your Echols enrollment?

i got a full tuition solely on need based aid. (all grants from the school and federal government). Echols doesnt give any merit-based scholarships. Only the Jefferson Scholars get that (full tuition but thats merit), but you cant get that unless your high school guidance counselor nominates you, and my school never even does that and prob doesnt even know about it.

Being quite familiar with Echols, I assumed you meant you had gotten full need-based aid but I thought your tone and way of presenting the info were ambiguous and potentially misleading. Anyway, good luck in what I am sure will be a challennging and stiumulating environment as well as a very attractive one–certainly better weather than your other options.

What are all of these different honors and scholars programs? Do you have to apply seperately for them or does the school just tell you when you’ve been accepted whether or not you are in a special program? Is it possible to get into these programs if you are undecided?

based on perceived prestige, UVA clearly wins.

I go to Brandeis and I love it. I think it’s an awesome school–and I am very happy here–so feel free to PM me with questions.

I don’t have any first-hand experience with UVA, but I gather there is a significant difference between UVA and 'Deis: the school’s culture. UVA students have a reputation to be a bit preppy and right-leaning (not that there’s anything wrong with that…) Whereas UVA is a rah-rah school, Brandeis doesn’t have as much school spirit (although PBUS-- Project Brandeis University Spirit–has really made some progress in terms of increased attendance at games and students were very enthusiastic about our women’s basketball team’s success.

College is personal, so there is not one correct answer. It’s all about what you value. Are you into social activism? I would pick Brandeis. Do you demand a school that has intense pride in its sports team? Pick UVA.

In terms of URochester and the rest, I don’t really too much about them. I wouldn’t transfer to Cornell though. Adjusting to one college is hard enough.

OK, I just wasted a few minutes of my life. I see you already decided on UVA. That kinda makes my last post obsolete.

Best of luck at UVA!!

UVA all the way

You are chosen to be an Echols scholar by the admissions office upon acceptance.

I just visited UVA for the first time. ITS AMAZING. IM SO HAPPY!!!

URochester’s a really nice school too, though UVA definitely tops your list in terms of prestige.
Academics? URochester competes with UVA in that aspect if you ask me, the academics at UR are top-notch.
School Spirit/Social Life - URochester’s got one heck of a school spirit and social life is nice - but I get the feeling that UVA has the better social life too.

Somehow I feel like URochester’s getting short-changed for its quality.

Anyhow - congrats Bklyn2Cornell on your decision, I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say that we’re glad you love it there and we wish you the best =).
btw - forget cornell lol.

thank you so much!
