By the way the word t r o l l is blocked here haha
Nope. Too late for that
To confirm, I’m the girl who was offered admission this past Thursday. I was accepted into SEAS as a 2nd year transfer from PVCC. I have not received an email; however, from previous blog threads, other admitted students have reported not receiving one due to accepting and paying before the email reached them. I’m not sure if I’ll get one, but I’ll get back to everyone if I do.
Sounds they barely offered any spots this year based on nobody talking about being accepted or denied. Sorry for you all who didn’t get in
Yeah… Transfermer commented today saying everyone that was admitted off the waitlist has a change in their SIS decision now… and that emails will go out tomorrow because they’re having technical issues
For those that are stressed and frustrated… just know being on the waitlist means that you are someone UVA would absolutely admit - but could not due to space. If possible, I recommend honing in and applying again for Spring or Fall 2019… college admissions is becoming extremely selective as the years go by because more and more overqualified students are applying to a lot of schools.
Of these seven schools I was only admitted to two. Denied Cornell, Georgetown, Northwestern, Northeastern, and NYU. Accepted to UVA and GWU; withdrew from BU. UVA was always my #1 choice, and I made sure to let that be known in my letter of continued interest. Some schools are holistic, some schools are need-aware, so they prefer students with more disposable income… some schools care most about your stats vs. your overall app and so on…
I’m sure UVA will remember your effort if you apply again - and it is definitely demonstrated by your perseverance. Good luck to everyone!
For next years applicants looking back: Accepted off the waitlist to CAS Econ
-Asian male, applied from VA community college - rising 3rd year
-3.5 GPA; 3.8-4.0 for the past three semesters (first semester was rough)
-2 letters of rec (very good letters)
-founder and president of two clubs on campus
-summer abroad in london studying financial markets for my freshman summer
-interned at bloomberg while in london
-interning at a f500 doing corporate finance/strategy/business development
-~50 volunteer hours done between my semesters for a hospital in my home state
*I had 6 W’s on my transcripts. What’s important is that you have REAL reasons for the questionable things in your application. Mine ranged from changing majors to taking care of a family member and needing to be home on the days I had class, as well as finding out a course was not needed to graduate from my CC. I also had a D and two C’s from dual enrollment in high school that were weighing me down; what’s important here is a HUGE upward trend, and taking courses that prepare you to hit the ground running when you get into UVA.
In my case, that meant having the non-western requirement fulfilled, calc 2 completed, stat 2 completed, and a second writing course completed - just so that I could be on track to finish the Econ major in time.*
I think i’m proof that UVA is extremely holistic in their admissions, and takes note of all circumstances - to truly understand one’s potential. If anyone has any questions, feel free to message me.
So how many will hear in the 2nd wave? Does this mean your chances are officially over or will there be some more offers in the next few weeks?
there wont be a second wave… just a few slots opened for those who don’t accept their acceptance in the next ~24-40 hours
Usually second wave is a very small wave. About 20 spots for each year. However, there was not a second wave for 2015 and 2017 according to the transfer blog. So second wave usually exists except 2015 and 2017.
Let’s hope.
There are so many inappropriate posts shown in transfer blog. For some people, I don’t think you deserve a spot if you don’t know how to be respectful. I don’t think admission office would be willing to provide more spots if they see some of you acting that way.
I can attest to the transfer process being holistic. I migrated from the Philippines last 2016, and though my GPA wasn’t a 4.0, there were other activities and difficult circumstances I had on my plate.
Also, can we please be kind to one another? There was an anonymous blogger who said: “only a bunch of xxxxxx xxxxxxx asians from this blog getting accepted…” This is extremely hurtful and flagrantly racist. I have no other words to type-- this is not okay.
How many offers do you think will be be extended? Transfermer says it’s not closed yet but I doubt more than a handful more of you guys will be lucky to get one
Yea there will be like 10+ most likely. A handful of us on here will get in, but that’s not only because of limited space this time around. Only 70 got in last year as well, and 40 this time so that makes it even more competitive. So far I’ve seen unless you’re a junior with an associates, you need a very high GPA to get off the waitlist. You can check the threads from the past years. It’s mostly 4.0s from CAS getting offers, and that already isn’t very many people on the waitlist. SEAS is even worse as they barely take anyone. Mcintire is the worst for waitlisted students I agree with that too. I’m sure if you have a 3.8+, you have a good chance for the second mini wave they’ll release Friday
So… I’m becoming more UVAhope(less) each day…
With that attitude you won’t get in. How were your grades 2nd semester?
70 credits, 4.0. Not trying to be a downer. But I also can’t deny that there will be very, very little movement from this point on. Especially for Comm.
I’m not so sure that’s true. Transfermer called it “small number of spots” that were sent last week. I mean only 70 got in last year too and about 20 on the second wave soooo. I see where you’re coming from though because of how tough Mcintire is to get into. Remaining hopeful I do agree isn’t very useful for some as I’m pretty sure they’re only going to take perfect grades or close to that off the waitlist on this second wave now. CAS and SEAS should still remain hopeful though if they have top grades.
4.0 GPA for spring semester from a prestigious university, applying for SEAS.
Join the club lol. Me too, except CAS
The transfer blog just posted about second wave. Has anyone’s sis updated?
