Ok, thanks for clicking in. I’m busy at work writing some UVA transfer essays before my GMU semester gets too hectic. First I want to present some of my grades/stats and see what you all think my chances are.

So from HS and IB I got a bunch of credits, 24 to be exact.
12 in German
6 in English, got to skip that, yes!
6 in History, that helped too.

My first semester, in the fall, I took 14 credits, I only did that because of the fact that I had two big classes with 4 credits each, so it got weird.

Those were;
I got a B+ in Math 113 “Calc 1”(This is the highest math class, that you have to test into, the same goes for UVA, this is their toughest entry freshmen class) (4 credits)

I got a B- in Biol 213 (I thought I wanted to be pre-med but not anymore, now I’m on the engineering train) (4 credits)

I got a B+ Hist 125 (Gen-ed, it wasn’t hard) (3 credits)

I got an A in Geog 101 (Gen-ed, I was rather indecisive with what I wanted to do, so I figured I would get gen-ed out of the way) (3 credits)

I actually got into VT Engineering but decided not to go because I was second guessing myself on whether or not I wanted to be an engineer.

Anyways, I fininshed that semester with a 3.29 and 14 credits

This semester I am taking;
Math 114 “Calc 2” (The second in a two part calc course, UVa also considers this a hard class) (4 credits)

Chem 211 (It’s for my engineering diploma, which I am now working towards) (4 credits)

Comm 100 (Gen-ed) (3 credits)

Arth 103 (Art history, intro to architecture, Gen-ed) (3 credits)

Again 14 credit hours.

So my question is, will UVA think it’s bad that I’m only taking 14 credits? Or will they realize there are two tough courses in there and that 14 is reasonable? I plan on doing very well this semester, but then again don’t we all?

What are my chances?

Now, as for essays here are the prompts…

In the space provided below, please elaborate on one of your activities (extracurricular, personal activities, or work experience)(150 words or fewer).

For this one, I’m thinking about talking about cooking. I no longer live with my parents, they’ve moved for my dad’s work, and I live with my older bro and sis. I wanted to mention that my mom was an awesome cook and we’d have big family dinners every night, a big part of my childhood and adult life. Once they moved I started cooking for myself. And go on from there, how I learned and progressed as a cook in the past year they’ve been gone. What do you think?

Please provide a statement (250 words minimum) that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve.

I’m having a tough time being original with this one. I feel like it’s a good opporotunity to be daring or risky, but not sure. Maybe like, oh the food is really good. But that’s probably a bad essay.

How do the possible career or professional plans you indicated on the Common Application relate to your planned course of study?
• If you are applying to the Architecture, Commerce, Education, Engineering, or Nursing Schools, tell us why you have chosen this field and what experiences (work, internships, etc.) have prepared you for it.

I’m engineering so, this seems like another boring prompt that’s tough to make unique. Maybe say like, I’ve contacted people in the industry i want to work in (auto industry, and actually some very notable people, that I still regularly e-mail with) Then say, sometimes it’s not what you know but who you know. I think that might be bad though because it diminishes the value of education, which is what they’re selling.

Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated.
