I want to double major in Computer Engineering and Computer Science. I am in state (if that even helps at all).

Both schools are paying for the whole estimated cost of attendance.

UVA (large financial aid package and scholarship)
VTech (presidential scholarship)

I visited both campuses and I love them equally.
I have thoroughly looked at both engineering programs and the differences are clearly nominal.

I’ve talked to many people (teachers, professors, current students, alumni, my mom, my peers, etc.) and I never come out of those discussions with a clear decision.

I’d like to have some insight from current students, and alumni (preferably recent). Also I’d like to know how engineers fare in the job market from these schools and what each school’s name recognition is like (in regards to the field of engineering. I don’t care that US News ranked UVA 2nd public school in the nation overall).

UVa does not appear to have such a thing on its web site.

You may want to ask each school’s career center what companies come recruiting for students in your major (for both internships and post graduation jobs).

Check faculty web pages and course catalogs to see if particular subareas of your major that you are interested in are better represented at one school than the other, since that can affect course availability and research opportunities.

But also check how realistic the GPA requirements are to keep the merit scholarships. And also consider non-academic fit aspects as well.

Have you asked at both schools the probability of completing a double major in four years? UVa students are held to four years to complete their degrees (8 semesters). I assume the scholarship at VT is for four years so you would have to consider if you/your family is willing/in a position to pay for additional semesters if necessary.

Yes, both said it’s doable in 4 years, but it’s a lot easier if you have AP credits and what not.

I already have some AP credits I could use for the English requirements, and I have dual enrolled credits in Computer Science (Java, C, C++), Calc I and II, Physics.

From the people I’ve heard from, VTech sounds a lot more lax about what Dual Enrolled credits they will take, while UVA will take almost none.

Also, if I’m feeling like I can’t complete the Double Majors in 4 years, I could always switch Computer Science to minor (which is absolutely possible in 4 years at both schools).

OP- Congrats on your acceptance and scholarship. Can you please tell what type of scholarships you got at both the schools? Is it merit or need based aid? What is the requirement to get the aid?
