UW Autumn 2014 Transfer Thread

@allme29 I’m also a transfer from cali. I haven’t heard anything either, except asking me to send transcripts because it was missing from the application. Just keep checking I guess.

Hey guys I guess we are all in the same boat. adamday your GPA is a lot higher than mine I have a 3.5. I applied to their business program so I don’t know if that means you have to wait longer to hear back. I talked to someone from the UW office and she said it could take till July : (

been creeping on this page for month but I decided to sign up to let you guys waiting know that I got my rejection letter today :frowning: I don’t remember my exact GPA during time of applying but it was a little above a 3.0. I think I got rejected because at the time of applying they only accepted 35 of my 60 credits which was sooo frustrating. The letter told me I should apply again for another quarter but since UW was my only option I’m not sure what I’m going to do now since all transfer apps for fall quarter for colleges are closed now. ugh

Hi guys, im new to this thread and just have a quick question. I am a transfer student and was recently admitted to the UW for fall 2014, they want my enrollment deposit but I haven’t received my financial aid package yet. Have any of you? Thanks!

@gabbymann Sorry about the rejection. Personally, if you are still dedicated to the UW, I would recommend spending more time at your community college—assuming you’re in state—and get 90 transferable credits and in AA. Afterwards, you could apply to the UW again as well as some other colleges. Remember, the UW gives priority to those in-state with 90 transferable credits. To determine what counts as transfer credit, I would consult the UW advising, your academic adviser, the UW course equivalency guide, and the UW transfer credit policy. By the time you will have 90 credits, you could potentially complete all your prereqs for your intended major, which is also a huge advantage in admissions, and save a lot of money. Good luck and remember to apply to some backup schools as well.

Helpful links to determine transfer credit and transfer GPA:

https://admit.washington.edu/Admission/Transfer/TransferGPA</a></p>

BTW, if you’re in-state, all CC courses not listed under the equivalency guide or addressed in the transfer credit policies are probably non-transferable and will not count as transfer credit or contribute towards your transfer GPA.

@Jazz49 Congrats on the admission. The financial aid will come much later than your deposit due date. After all, as soon as I got my letter, the financial aid offices requested some documents from me. When I called financial aid, they said that I probably won’t hear back until sometime around August; they were still dealing with summer financial aid. To ensure your spot, you have to pay the deposit or request a deferral before the given date. If I remember correctly, the deferral only delays the 300 dollar deposit and adds it towards your tuition costs later on.

Thank you @potatomawnster‌ I emailed the office of admissions for a deferral before the deposit deadline but they have not gotten back to me yet. I do want to attend the UW but I do not know what credits will transfer and I have no idea what my FA package is, so I feel a little unsure about putting down the $300 deposit. Thanks again.

@jazz49 I think you have to pay or request a deferral before the due date. In the welcome packet that you got, the instructions page gave you a link to print out the New Student Payment form. The form allows you to choose to pay or request a deferral. I believe that form along with the other stuff must be received before the due date. At the A&O session, you can bring a copy of your unofficial transcript and talk with an adviser about transferring credits.

@jazz49 If it helps, 1 day after my $300 was processed by UW, my unofficial transcript was updated with my transfer credits. This is unlike the other 2 schools I was accepted to; they sent me a transcript evaluation AND my FA package along with or before my official acceptance letter.

The FA packages I was offered at the other schools were actually pretty incredible, enough to make me think twice about the UW which has always been my first choice. However, have you looked at the Husky Promise?

<a href=“The Husky Promise”>http://www.washington.edu/huskypromise/</a></p>

This was enough to put my mind at ease; no matter what my offer was, I won’t have to worry about tuition. The other schools may have offered huge packages, but neither were full blown guarantees that my tuition would be 100% taken care of.

Caveat: To be eligible for the Husky Promise, your FAFSA had to have been submitted by the deadline, which was in February.

Also something worth looking at are the academic scholarship opportunities individual departments offer, as well as the Mary Gates leadership/research opportunities:

http://expd.washington.edu/mge/apply/research/index.htm</a></p>

If you have anything like that in mind, it is worth looking into. At the very least it is something to help you feel a little more at ease in parting with that $300  Or at least defer it to have it added to the cost of your tuition like @potatomawnster‌ said. Which is actually a pretty good option because your FA will have kicked in off setting that financial burden. Plus you will have time to set aside funds for it.

Thanks @nornorbalina for mentioning the unofficial transcript being updated, I had checked so often with no results that I gave up checking, but just checked and my unofficial transcript is finally showing. One thing I want to mention is at the bottom it says how many credits transfer toward your degree and it has a maximum of 90 for the LD (lower division classes, which I believe are 100 and 200 classes). However, it also shows 3 credits of UD (upper division credit which I believe is for my Math 308 class). I find it interesting that you can add credits to be used to your degree that are upper division courses. I always thought that it was 90 total no matter if it is upper or lower division classes. If I find it interesting I thought others might feel the same way.

Has anyone been accepted WITHOUT their unofficial transcript loading?

Not so far this year, but in previous years yes.

Actually I have seen one post here said that he/she got the letter without unofficial transcript being loaded.

Then I stand corrected, I guess there was one this year :D

Thanks @nornorbalina‌ and @potatomawnster‌ for all the advice. I submitted my FASFA by the deadline and I sent in my letter asking for a deferral, hopefully it is approved.

I just got the mail today, i got accepted from UW Bothell. But i fail the Chem161 in Spring (I got a D). Could I retake that class in the summer and send my final transcript in the end of summer quarter? Should I contact them about my situation? Im worying that my offer of admission will be rescinded.

@Pita90 Why did you fail the class? If you had difficult circumstances, they will understand. Regardless though, I think you should contact them first and explain. You should still send in your transcript, as I’m pretty sure your admittance is contingent upon their receiving your transcript. You can tell them that you are going to retake the course this summer.

Hey everyone my unofficial transcript just loaded!!! So excited!!! It really didn’t have any info on it other than my high school stuff, but it says that I’m a pre science major in the Arts and Sciences.
So I guess another batch is coming out slowly right now. Also I’m from California so maybe they’re finally getting to the out of state applicants.

My unofficial transcript loaded today!!! Does that mean I got in? I have a student number!

My unofficial transcript loaded!!!
College Debt, here I come Lol jk!!!

I applied to UWT and UWS, and my unofficial transcript has been loaded for Tacoma for months. I just logged in and my transcript changed. Hopefully, it’s good news for Seattle. I’m applying to engineering if there are any other engineers waiting too.
