UW Autumn 2014 Transfer Thread

@CKLCLOUDS That sucks! I can’t believe they didn’t let you in. Any idea why?? Are you considered out of state?

thats the thing… i realllllyyy dont understand!! at all… and I just don’t have the money to go back to school where I was before… so I am not sure what the next steps are. Everyone at UW was telling I was the perefect candidate to get into the school. So i am not sure what happened there. I guess I just take it a day at a time.

and I am not sure if I am considered out of state…

I still haven’t heard either! Does anyone know if there is still housing available? What about football tickets and getting the classes we want. Making us wait this long is making us miss out on a lot and we need to know all our options before we can make a decision. I’m stressed!

I emailed admissions and they told me my decision letter was mailed too! But my transcript still hasn’t shown up… Should I be worried?..

I think I am in the same boat as you. I wouldn’t worry too much. I think that if there were things they were still waiting on to be able to make a decision they would email us and ask for it. That’s what all other schools have done. And there’s nothing that can be done now so I guess we just continue to wait until we get our answer… hopefully its good news!

@cklclouds‌ that sucks I’m so sorry to hear that :frowning:

With your stats I have no doubt you will have plenty of other options if you do some digging. The thing about UW to keep in mind is that the number of transfer students they accept from 4 year schools is significantly lower than what they are willing to accept from 2 year schools (check these stats out on their transfer page). The reasons I found were the differences and concerns in clearly defined educational goals: basically they think that CC transfers have more direction in their educational path than a student that jumps from one university to another. This is not at all to say this is your situation; not being able to afford where you are going now is a perfectly legitimate reason and the UW offers amazing financial assistance. Maybe that is something to highlight when you appeal or reapply? Restate,clarify, and stress your goals and needs and that might help out your appeal! Good luck!

ALSO forgot to mention, you would be considered out of state @cklclouds‌ if you have not resided continually within Washington for at least 12 months regardless of whether or not this is your home state.

Check this out:

“To be classified or reclassified as residents, for tuition and fee purposes, students must establish a bona fide domicile in the state of Washington primarily for purposes other than education for the period of one year immediately prior to classification as residents.”

I found this from <a href=“Residency for Tuition Purposes - Office of the University Registrar”>Residency for Tuition Purposes - Office of the University Registrar;

@Sklrjnsn‌ I’m just afraid it’s a rejection letter…

@xoxoyazyxoxo‌ Stay positive! I think the wait is the worst part. Not knowing is so stressful. Where are you hoping to transfer from?

I was just denied as well as an international transfer student. Good luck to everyone else!

@Sklrjnsn I guess that’s true haha, I’m from SoCal

@gilmorej Have you seen this link for engineering transfers? I haven’t met many people that have! I don’t know whether to be afraid or happy that my GPA is in the range of average admission offers.

http://data.engr.washington.edu/pls/portal30/STUDENT_APPL.RPT_APPLICANT_STATISTICS_YEAR.SHOW_PARMS

I have a GPA in the mid 3.5 range and applied to AA and ME. I completed all of the university VLPAs and I&S credits in addition to the pre-reqs for both majors at an in-state community college over the last two years. I’ve taken a few 20 credit quarters with 20+ hours at the same time so I hope they’ll think I have good work ethic! What departments did you apply to if you don’t mind me asking?

@cklclouds Sorry to hear that…I wonder what’s the reason behind their decision. Get back out there standing stronger!

@xoxoyazyxoxo‌ I’m crossing my fingers for you!

@Anton164‌ Best of luck to your future endeavors.

[-O< :bz

I received my rejection letter yesterday :frowning: It’s upsetting but it happens. I had around a 3.8 and over 100 credits. I am considering the appeal process but I’m not sure yet. I was a running start student and I didn’t really make any great connections with my teachers. I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions for who I should ask to write my recommendation letters. Any help is appreciated :slight_smile: Thank you!

@skays17‌ I’m so sorry! Definitely try for an appeal, word your case strongly and highlight your educational goals! and community contribution! Something maybe to do this summer is find some volunteer work to do, do an awesome job, and have someone you work for or with write you a letter! I included some strong letters from the Fire Departments I volunteer at and I think that really helped me out. Good luck!

@skays17‌ if it really comes down to it ask like gramas or aunts and uncles that dont have the same last name that you did work for or just know you really well. Or even any employers you have had. sometimes you gotta play the game if you need to! good luck! I am appealing as well.

Has anyone been accepted without their transcript loading?..

@xoxoyazyxoxo It’s not often, but there always have been several reported cases in threads like this. So don’t give up hope.

It’s kinda concerning the last few ppl that have reported back were rejected with their stats! I’m a wa cc graduate with 115 credits 3.76 gpa. I read somewhere that my major (EE) has to make a decision before the UW. Hopefully this trend of rejections is broken soon.
