@justin3co The concept of “harder to get into” is pretty subjective. Depending on where you are applying from (in-state, OOS, international), or what you are applying for (humanities, STEM, ect.) it can be either very difficult, or easier completely depending on what the school is looking for. Something else the UW will consider is your educational goal and what you have to contribute to the school as a whole. GPAs are not the only factor despite what many people are led to believe. For example, they will be more apt to take on an 4 year university transfer student that is applying from a college that does not offer their intended program as opposed to a 4 year transfer student who is applying because “they have always wanted to be a husky since, like, ever!!” Something that is heavily weighed in their consideration is “How much does this student need the UW?” This really gauges how much the UW “needs” them. If a student 4.0s across the board, excellent extracurricular record, blah blah, the UW will probably pass them over because that student is more than likely to be picked up by a more “prestigious” which really means “academically selective” school.

Have you noticed that most high ranking schools in the nation based on USNews’ criteria are the most academically selective? Harvard and Princeton have 6% acceptance rates and they are the number 1 and 2 colleges in the nation (according to USNews). Their criteria in this instance is based solely on how selective they are. The UW is ranked 52.Their acceptance rate is 59%. You can take those undergrad values for what they are worth, because many factors weigh in here. How many people applied, ect. Something else to weigh in, is the rankings of the UWs professional and graduate programs. They are ranked 1 for Best Primary Care, and in the 20s for their engineering, business, and various other science categories, some sciences even in the top 10. You can see by these rankings where the school really puts their value and priority.

TL;DR
“Harder to get into” is super subjective. Weigh all the factors that contribute to a school’s acceptance rate. Check this site out for some really subjective information if that’s what you’re into.

So just read through much of the thread… I am a postbacc student seeking either ME (1st choice) or CEE (2nd) I was told that UW would either send me a rejection very quickly and have me appeal respectfully (the advisor told me about an individual who was accepted into ME but not UW because they were very rude to the admissions committee in their appeals… anyhoo…) or they would wait for the Engr department and follow what they say…
Has anyone heard back about ME? or CEE? I am transferring in as a Upper…

@Tricky19, I was admitted into Aerospace Engineering two days ago. I still have not heard back from ME or general admissions. I’m an in-state CC transfer student if that helps. None of my 4 friends who applied to ME has heard back from them either. Three are from CCs, one is already at UW. I’m getting kind of anxious waiting on general admissions acceptance! I’d be pretty devastated if UW general rejected me.

I was told that it would probably happen (as a postbac evidently generally we are denied and have to appeal). I wouldn’t worry, but if you feel like preparing just in case this is what I will do if I am denied: find 3 people for reference letters, and re-write the admissions essay paying very close attention to their specific questions, and write an appeal letter with respect talking about acceptance into the engr department.

I’ve been skimming this thread for awhile now and realized a lot of the people who haven’t heard back yet are the engineers. My boyfriend is a transfer applicant too so I had him call in to find out why it was taking so long.

So the reason why the engineer transfer applicants (mostly the ones who signed up for ME first) haven’t heard back yet is because the the Mechanical Engineering department just started reviewing applicants at the beginning of July. They closed their application page later than all the other fields so it takes “longer” for the acceptance/rejection letter to go out.

The whole process is whatever field you applied to must review your application, then if you don’t qualify, your application goes to the next field you applied for, which gets reviewed, and then if you do (or don’t) get accepted, your application goes to the “regular” or school counselors to review your application and choose to accept you or reject you. Even if you get into your field, you still have a chance of being rejected by the school counselors.

Business Administration and Economics were my two choices on the app. I never applied to Foster since I did not have the calculus requirement completed by the time the app was due in February.

Has anyone received a financial aid reward after being accepted and paying their deposit? Mines says “At this time, you have no awards for this aid year.” I don’t know if that means they haven’t assigned me financial aid yet, or that they have, and I just simply am not receiving anything.

@Bridgewood mine also says the same thing. If you check your “Document Status” a couple tabs below, it will tll you if they have reviewed your docs. Mine says “pending review”! I am thinking they haven’t gotten to ours yet. I noticed a change about a month ago when they uploaded having received my documents, so I know it gets updated in a relatively timely manner because this was a day after I sent additional documents to them via email.

@Bridgewood if you go to myUW, then “student Finances” (left tab column, 3rd one down from “My Front Page”), then click “financial aid status” (middle top block titled “financial aid”, 1st option). The default page it brings you to is “messages” where you see “you have no awards at this time” and whatever other messages you might have had. Look at the options on the left side of the page; right under “messages”, click on “document status”. The documents in the queue are listed in table format. The furthest right will have the status of each document, and mine currently says in bold “pending review” for both IRS data and my household verification. Sorry if that was confusing, hope it helps! If you’re still having trouble, PM me and I’ll send you screen shots!

Hello! I’ve sort of been poking around this thread to try to make myself feel better about not yet hearing from UW :-?? and I’ve noticed a lot of people talking about using the unofficial transcript page as a kind of indicator of admission. I’m wondering if someone can tell me why that is or what exactly they’re looking for.

@mellyfish The unofficial transcript is a good indicator of acceptance under these conditions: 1) The applicant is not a non-matriculated student. 2) They did not apply for the other UW campuses. Under these conditions, the transcript is a fairly reliable source because when it is viewable, the applicant is given a student number. If that is true, then they are officially a student, meaning they’ve been accepted. After all, it’s hard to believe that they would take the effort and time to load a student’s information and give them a student number only to reject them later on.

Looking at the replies for these kinds of threads, it appears all students who have their transcript loaded were accepted. However, that doesn’t mean if your transcript didn’t load, that you were rejected. It’s a little bit confusing, but in summary:
All of those who were rejected did not get a loaded transcript.
Not all those who were accepted have had their transcript load before their admission decisions.
However, all of those w/ a loaded transcript were accepted.

If you are trying to locate the unofficial transcript page on your MyUW, it’s under the ‘Admissions’ tab on the left and then the ‘Unofficial UW Transcript’ on the bottom right. I know that it sucks not knowing the results—especially this late into the notification period—but hang in there, you have no reason to give up.

@potatomawnster Thanks! That’s actually pretty clear and makes a lot of sense. After I saw people talk about it I went on over to the unofficial transcripts page and discovered that I actually have one! (WOO!) I was confused before because I’d never tried to look at the unofficial transcript before so I wasn’t sure if that was normal or what everyone was looking for. BUT NOW I KNOW! So I can stop having a mini heart attack every time I check the mail AND SEE NOTHING… or see the school (I live literally 2 minutes away and see it constantly).

@mellyfish Congratulations! You should be getting your letter and packet a few days later, assuming your transcript began loading very recently. Otherwise, I’d contact their offices.

From what people have said, it looks like the decision for the Engineering students has been pushed to next… I’m waiting on ME and CEE… no clue…

Im applying for EE and a department advisor told me Ill receive email on the 25th with my decision. They told me this the first week of july though. It could have changed im not sure.
