UW GPA Safe Zone

My UW GPA will be ~3.73 with first semester senior year grades factored in. I was just curious as to what CC generally considers the “safe zone” for UW GPA for MIT as well as other top schools.

Every school’s common data set includes information about what the school considers important in admissions. MIT’s is here: [MIT Office of the Provost, Institutional Research](<a href=“MIT Institutional Research”>MIT Institutional Research). As you’ll see, MIT recently reported that it values “character/personal qualities” more important than other factors.

However, MIT looks for these traits among a very high-achieving pool of applicants. GPA varies from school to school, so you will be evaluated within the context of your secondary institution. Your chances of admission are slim if you are not among the top 10% of students at your high school. Only 3% of admitted students last year missed that category, and no one was admitted who was not among the top 25%. You can check the common data sets of every school to which you’re applying.
