UW-MADISON TRANSFER FALL 2019

@california203 I lived off campus last semester when I first transferred, and I don’t recommend it at all. I felt very disconnected, and it was hard to meet people. Once I moved to an on campus apartment this semester, it made things a lot easier. Definitely try to get into the transfer house, but if that doesn’t work out, I’d suggest still living on campus. It will make the transition a lot easier!

@kbot9929 Hi, I was admitted as a transfer to UW-Madison for fall 2020. I did not end up signing a housing contract because the transfer house was not guaranteed and if I didn’t get in there, I would’ve gotten another dorm that I didn’t want so I’m just going to get an apartment. As someone who is worried about making friends and meeting new people, did you join any clubs? I plan on joining clubs, doing stuff with other transfer students, and having a job so I feel like I can meet people that way… Any other recommendations for transfer students?

@TransferGuy08 I joined a lot of clubs and did greek life last semester, and that helped a lot. I would say that you should get really involved in whatever interests you and secure a campus job if that’s possible for you. Also, getting involved with the Transfer Engagement Center on campus was a great way to connect with other transfer students. They host a lot of really cool events, and it’s a great way to meet people who are going through the same thing. It may take you some time to get acclimated into the campus, but once you do, I’m sure you’ll be really happy you transferred here.
