So I’m a Wisconsin resident and UW-Madison would cost a little under 20,000 a year for me to attend. As of now, USC has offered me next to nothing in financial aid, costing 58,000 a year. Georgetown has offered 9,000, and USD has offered 20,000.
If I plan on being a biology major and hope to attend medical school, which school would be the best choice for me as far as academics and my chances at getting accepted to med school? USC is by far my favorite school, but I would have a hard time justifying 58,000 a year if I could receive the same quality education elsewhere for a much cheaper price.
How do the programs compare at the different schools?

Cali,
Have you received an e-mail from SC letting you know your financial package is completed? If not, I suggest you wait until you make this decision since SC is your first choice. The financial aid packages at SC are just starting to be released.

Did you fill out the financial aid forms and turn them in by the deadline? With years of medical school ahead finances will play a major part in your decision.

i have not received an email yet, however my family was expecting a low amount of financial aid from usc as they learned that we recently inherited a fairly large sum of money.

calemi16, you have not received an email saying your package is ready, so why are you complaining about your aid when you have no idea what the package will be? If the inheritance is in the calendar year 2011, it will not affect your aid for THIS year, but will be considered in calculating your aid for future years.

alamemom- i am definitely not complaining at all, i am just seeking advice on which schools may be comparable in academics!

Go to UW@M.

FTR, home tuition is $9050 per annum, not 20k for a WI resident?

^ OP said CoA, not tuition, is 20k.

caliemi16, stating:
when USC has not yet presented your package IS complaining. If you were only asking about academics, why include the statement about financial aid - especially when USC has not yet said that your package is complete?

go to Madison. save $ and spend on med school. med school doesn’t acer much where you went to school at as long as you do well and get good mcat. so Madison is a fine choice, even if USC came with a partial scholarship. Madison has a fine biology/biological sciences program in the nation. don’t make the mistake. go to Madison.

Save the money. USC is a wonderful school, but it can be a squeeze if you are middle class and don’t get a healthy grant.

Plus Madison is an awesome town to go to college in.

I think you really answered your question already in your original post. Go to Madison! Cost to value is not even close. And Madison is possibly the best college town in America.

The OP submitted a deposit to USD.
