UW- Near Eastern Languages and Civilization

Hello,

I applied to UW as a transfer student for fall 2011 about 2 weeks ago, and i never received any email or anything yet. When i should expect to hear from them? where do i check if they got my application?

In addition, is the Near Eastern Languages and Civilization competitive? are the chances to be accepted for this department high for someone who has 3.72 GPA?

I’m not sure when you should expect to hear from them or where you check if they got your application. That information might be on their admissions website. Did you check?

The Near Eastern L&C Dept reportedly has open admissions for prospective majors (as compared to depts with competitive admissions. See this link: [UW Advising - List of Majors](http://www.washington.edu/uaa/advising/majors/majoff.php). Also, check the .pdf worksheet for the Near Eastern L&C Dept on this site [Academic Planning Worksheets — Plan — Transfer — University of Washington](http://admit.washington.edu/Requirements/Transfer/Plan/Worksheets) to see some criteria for admission of transfer students. Your GPA is within the range of accepted transfer students. The dept. also may look at your previous relevant coursework (e.g., Near Eastern studies, literature, writing, French, Russian).

yes i checked their website, but nothing about it. at my college there was no classes related to this major except of Arabic, which is my native tongue too.

Well, on this page, UW only states a broad timeframe for when transfer admission decisions are mailed: [Admission - Transfer — Admission — FAQ — University of Washington](http://admit.washington.edu/FAQ/Admission/Transfer)
On this gage, UW states that notification is a continuing process, so they cannot give you an exact date for notification:[The Admission Decision — Transfer — Apply — University of Washington](http://admit.washington.edu/Apply/Transfer/Decision)

Since Arabic is your native language, I would think you clearly have an advantage for admission to this dept, as the time it takes to gain proficiency in one of the languages would be a realistic concern in transfer admissions. If a transfer student only wanted to begin learning Arabic or another near Eastern language after transfer, it’s unlikely such a student would be unable to complete a major in a timely manner. In your case, that shouldn’t be a concern.

Good luck.

appreciate your respond. good lick 2u2
