UWC Applicants for the 2013 school year!

Hi! I just signed up and i have lots of questions for all of you! Im not from America but for those who did not get in you gave it your best so be proud  for those who did get in could you pleassseee tell me how the interview goes what they ask you? And how long did it take for them to reply to you?
Im so nervous for a reply and i check everyday so it would be reliving to know if they reply in say a month…
THANK you to anybody who tries and helps me! good luck to you all

@smelltheroses91: I will definitely keep everyone updated. What country are you from? I’m not sure how helpful my information will be as some countries do the process very differently.

@lindzmm that is not creepy in the slightest and is so incredibly nice of you - thank you so so much. I’m right there with you about the ice cream (although I’m eating cookies instead). I think at this point, it’s best to try to think of what we can all do instead that is amazing and cool - create our own UWCish experience instead of having it given to us. That’s what I’m currently struggling with but I think I’ll come up with something eventually - exchange is definitely an option :)

I’m probably not going to be on this thread much anymore, but if anyone wants to continue a conversation - perhaps about wallowing in misery :stuck_out_tongue: - I have the same username on tumblr and I can private message people a link to my Facebook account!

Ooh, @lunascreatures, great idea, I was going to say the same thing! I don’t think being on this thread now will be good for my overall well being, but feel free to private message me and I’ll send you a link to my FB as well.

For all those who got denied an interview, please don’t lose the spirit of UWC. Just because you didn’t get an interview doesn’t mean you aren’t part of the UWC movement. Live a UWC lifestyle no matter where you are. We control how we live out lives, and living with a UWCer spirit isn’t dependent on whether or not you get an interview. It’s already instilled in our hearts. So spread the UWC in your community through your example and hard work. Because UWC is so much more than a school, it’s a movement anyone can take part in.

I totally agree with Ashbry8, in the matter of fact, I’d like to remind you that UWC’s mission isn’t to solely offer a studying abroad program. UWC is also about connecting people from all over the world, and that is indeed what is happening on this forum. If you guys don’t mind, I suggest making a Facebook group where we can all keep in touch, and also talk about the different places we came from. Those of us that are actually lucky enough to get accepted to UWC can occasionally update the group with pictures and posts that would allow them to narrate the experience…

You ask, I deliver. And here we are!

http://www.facebook.com/groups/606439372716236/

Congrats to everyone who got in, and also to those who didn’t. Having the guts to put yourself out there, to dream big (HUGE, really) isn’t average. You are all the way above average and the kindness and inclusion and humour that I’ve felt from everyone on this thread can be felt through the screen. Think about how many people are going through this right, are about to go through it, or already have; think about how many this movement has touched, in little and big ways; you MULTIPLIED it. You told your friends, family, about it, but you also grew because of it. UWC makes a difference even if you’re not at one of the schools; the application demanded so much of you, as a person, a thinker, a friend, and a change-maker. Don’t lose faith in yourself! Anyone who believes in UWC enough to make themselves vulnerable to the possibility of rejection is amazing.

After finishing and submitting the application in January, we put an unspoken moratorium on discussing UWC at home. We were pleasantly surprised yesterday when Kyle received an interview invitation. @garyoak, you said it so well - the number of amazing young people who are on this site and the courage it takes to ā€˜put yourselves out there’ during the UWC application makes me so not envious of the job UWC must have had in sorting. Congratulations to everyone.

I got an interview with a really last-minute application. I am lucky, and must prove myself the second time around.

Apollo6, did your son already get a confirmed NSLI-Y place? I’m still waiting on a decision. I sent the medical docs a few days ago

My son was a U.S. sophomore last year when he applied for both UWC and NSLIY. He didn’t get chosen for UWC after interviews so he is spending this year in China.

OK, for starters I have to say Greeks versus egyptians if pretty hard, but egyptians come out tops. Everyone else doesn’t even come close XD But what about Japanese mythology? That’s some pretty awesome stuff there. Also, I LOVE PERCY JACKSON ahem

I’m a bit like you @knoxandonyx in that I have loved greek mythology since a grade 2 thing where we all had to dress up like Greek gods and do an assembly. Anyhoo, long story short I was Athena and thought she rocked  And I am currently in Switzerland!

@Lunascreature OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG is all I have to say about the children named after LOTR. SERIOUSLY LEGENDARY!!! I want to shake that woman’s hand. Arwen and Lorien <3 Plus I salute you for Atticus!

For me (excuse me while I rant about improbable things) if I have a boy I would call him Peregrin because as a boy he could be known is Pippin, then as a man he could be known as Perry if Pippin/Peregrin was embarassing :)

The legendary english teacher at my school once said that ā€œI really wanted to call his daughter Persephone because he thought it was beautiful but he didn’t want her to get bulliedā€ How adorable is that?!

And since both my parents come from families of twins I will probably have twins too haha. I also think that Natalia is a beautiful name  My name has about three different stories attached to it which I won’t go into XD One of them starts in 1890s India…

@Lunascreatures (my face after reading about you and the green brothers —>) (o________o)

The harry potter conversation melted my heart <3 <3 you guys are making me want to go to UWCUSA just to increase the possibilty of meeting YOU more than anything else XD

@garyoak I love your story about that line. I almost cried imagining it :’)

Plus, FYI I have never been to a single harry potter convention. And I’m ENGLISH. WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY COUNTRY?? I have however slept at the castle where the outdoor hogwarts scenes were filmed :)

I’m also heartbroken that you didn’t get in. I have been going through reading this thread and making a massive list of responses to people I can’t believe haven’t got interviews. I hope that you can all refocus enough to realise that this is not the end, and I can see you were serious candidates, and good people, and that is something that will never change, no matter where you live or go to school. In fact, that is part of the UWC message, is that it unites these people who have been following their hearts all over the world. It’s sort of like a spring board which throws you up with them. But with enough woods and nails you can build a ladder to the same place, and I believe in you and know you can do. I’m expecting greatness from you all :)

Hi Everyone,
Wow-- this has been such a journey for all of us. Congratulations to EVERYONE!
What are some programs like UWC?
Does anyone who didn’t get an interview have a plan B?

I GOT AN INTERVIEW!!! (2. March)

Congratulations! How exciting! Unfortunately, very few of the US students who were posting were offered interviews this year. I think we’re down to two juniors applying for the second time and one sophomore. Most of the US students are young enough to reapply next year. Waiting for news from the Canadians, Eastern Europeans and Asians. I think you are the only poster from Western Europe. I’ll update the list when more students start posting.

I’m a sophomore that got an interview. I’m really lucky to have gotten one. I don’t fit the age requirements for next year, which makes it all the more important for a good interview this year.

Yes, I’m not sure why but as far as I can tell all of the UK applicants (Stuffzhappening, Poppyatlas, JonnyMorrison and myself) have been offered interviews, but only a fraction of the american applicants :frowning: I have heard from Ashbry8, Windowpainting6, Bergen’s child, ameripen, Apollo 6’s child and mmrnz13. However I’m not sure if all of the above are even american. Could we do a quick national committee recap? I’m obviously doing it through UKGB

Congratulations alpacallama!! When is the interview?

I’m a sophomore and a first time applicant. I’m applying through the UWCUSA national committee.
