UWC Applicants for the 2013 school year!

I’ve been accepted off of the waiting list for UWC. I had a choice between Mahindra, Atlantic College and Costa Rica.

I have chosen Costa Rica and will need to raise a lot of money because the place is a full fee one - which my mother can’t afford. This thread has been a fantastic outlet throughout this process and I hope that everyone here goes on to lead amazing lives wherever they attend.

For those who received offers, congratulations! My commiserations to those who did not.

@Stuffzhappenin: Congratulations1 I hope you get the funding you need. I just had a quick question which is UWC Costa Rica is bilingual right? Do you have to speak fluent English and Spanish?

@Pashay Thanks! As far as I know, you don’t need to be fluent in spanish. But, you will pick up some of it while there due to the nature of how the school operates. From the people I’ve spoken to, you can come in knowing no spanish and still come out knowing no spanish - it all depends how much you want to immerse yourself. Hope this helps.

Oh cool, thanks. See I take Spanish, but am nowhere near fluent and I just wondered how much you had to speak to go there. I bet it would be a great place to improve! And I’m sure you’ll get great weather too ;)

Congratulations to all those headed to a UWC this year! I’m on my way home after my daughter’s graduation from UWC USA. It was wonderful to see all the great kids and touching to see how attached they were to each other. I’ve never seen so many tearful young men (and women) in my life as I saw after the graduation ceremony. When I think about all the extraordinary young people attending the UWCs, I feel very optimistic about the future of our world.

Haha just found this thread, didn’t get in… Applied for LPCUWC, HK international school resident :stuck_out_tongue: But oh well good luck to y’all going next year!! Almost all of my friends in UWC schools are really great people and have expressed no regrets; I’m sure you’ll have the same experience… hope everything goes great! :)

Hi guys!
May be some of you knows something about their waitlist policy, 'cause I’ve been waitlisted and just wonder whether I should expect good news… Do you know when approximately they start to consider people from waitlist? Thanks a lot :3

Hi all,

I’m currently on the waitlist of LPCUWC, Hong Kong. The admission results were announced in April and some of the waitlisted students have been informed (accepted) in May. Yet I haven’t received any news from the school till now
Should I write the admission office a letter…or what should I do?

Thank you so much!

Hi, I was wondering what you guys thought of my grades/EC activities/volunteering and if you thought it was enough to get into the UWC schools. They look amazing and I would love to get in. I am currently taking harp (this is my 8th year), yoga, and art lessons. I’m also looking into volunteering at a program that helps tutor and ease the transition for kids moving from east africa. I haven’t been in any clubs or groups in school, so is that something I should start? I run regularly and work out a bit on my own so I’m considering joining cross country. grade last year was a 3.7/4 which I think is okay but people in my school definitely had bettery ones and I wasnt taking any honor classes. Next year however I will be taking AP french, english, and us history. Any other additional advice would be loved. :)

Hello! I just found this thread and I’m going to apply this year so I’m gonna join…

25 more days until the application comes out!

Hey guys!
I’m from Hong Kong and applying this year for UWC.I’m part of all sorts of school extra curriculums:
1)Cultural Heritage and Promotion Club
2)Art club (committee)
3)Rugby team
4)Environmental Protection Club (committee)
5)Red Cross member
I also did some volunteering work in UNICEF this summer,I care a lot about animal abuse and children in poverty.
But I am poor academic-wise,I’ve already handed in the application form, and the aptitude test is coming soon,I’m scared I won’t even be able to manage that test?Any advice? Are my results really important?
I am really good at Visual Art(I got first in my class last year),but do they care more about my maths skills?
