I guess the issue is whether he was supposed to report that detention order and involuntary evaluation on the gun purchase application. Or if such an incident could have been found if screening of purchasers was done before they get the gun.

It is my understanding - no - it was a temporary detention order - in order to have him evaluated by Access - which is the state agency for mental health issues - they have the authority to get court orders - and it was considered voluntary to go to the facility for the evaluation - it was not a 3 day hold - not mandated by the court. So this was not considered an arrest by law officials - so did not go on his record. Had it been involuntary - it would be on his police record.

According to the gun dealer - and the state police - he did the standard screen - which only takes a couple of minutes on a computer now to do. The shooter was not allowed to purchase a second gun at the same time - had to wait 30? days - which is what he seemed to have done.

Cho fired hollow point bullets, thats why he was able to kill so many people without any experience firing his weapon before. I knew he had something meant to cause fatality. Those people were screwed, his crime required the upmost of forethought, the chains and the hollowpoints just showed that Cho would not be stopped.

And from his videos and writing he was crazy, crazy. He was a simple coward.

I just cant imagine being that sick and doing anything even close to what he did - and now he speaks from the dead - horrible - and heart wrenching

In response to the bomb threats: there is actually a bomb AND gun threat at my school on Friday.

I have to wonder if he had a roommate this year. I saw the interviews with his former roommates (one who reported him for being suicidal). I am just thinking about how he could have had these weopens and other materials and taken the photos and videos and just anything else he had lying around and not have had a roomie notice. Perhaps being a senior, he had a single? I mean, I can’t imagine anyone having requested him as a roommate. I can also see that the things he wrote for school assignments would concern a professor. He seems just very very sick. It goes way beyond depression. A depressed person might take their own life but not all this. This was one very very angry guy.

^^^^^ yes same here in South Jersey- heard on local news tonight- very small private school

OMG…

This threat came from a board you may all know…

^^From the above boards—what is WGWAG? Probably something that can’t be posted here?

I really wish the media would have the decency to choose not to air any of the killers photos, video or manifesto. This just feeds into his pathology and can potentially encourage more copycat activity, as to some, negative attention (and a brief moment in the limelight, even for a deranged reason) is better than no attention at all. Ubnfortunately the media’s mantra “if it bleeds, it leads” , and the morbid curiosity of many, will probably facilitate the airing of this lunacy.

soozie…I posted this on another thread, but it is incredibly difficult for federally funded schools to ‘expel’ distrubed students who are passing courses. About the only option is to send a letter to the parents ‘suggesting’ that the parents voluntarily remove the student.

Many times, the parents REFUSE to remove the student and the school is stuck with the kid. I know because one of these kids was moved into my son’s room mid-semester in freshman year. His parents actually sued the school to make them take him back after the kid was brought up on assault and threatened assault charges. He had a restraining order on him to keep him off of certain sections of campus.

With Nikki Giovanni and Lucinda Roy strenuously advocating for the removal of Cho, I am 100% certain that Cho’s parents received such a letter.

I hope Va Tech reveals their attempts to remove Cho because most parents would faint if they knew the danger–and maybe that would help to change those laws.

jym - I couldn’t agree more. Clearly this disturbed individual took a lot of his ideas from what was reported about the motives of the Columbine killers. Are the network and cable news outlets incapable of putting 2 and 2 together?

Yikes…this just seems like such a scary and devastating situation. Unfortunately, there really is nothing someone can do to stop this behavior…without getting into questions of legality.

I’m curious about the university’s response to the two women who complained of him stalking them? They chose not to press charges, but I’m wondering if the university informed them that they still had the right to pursue disciplinary action inside the U? I’m pretty sure the Clery Act requires this kind of notification.

And so it begins…

Student Arrested Over Va. Tech Remarks
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) – A University of Colorado student was arrested after making comments that classmates deemed sympathetic toward the gunman blamed for killing 32 students and himself at Virginia Tech, authorities said.

During a class discussion of Monday’s massacre at Virginia Tech, the student ‘‘made comments about understanding how someone could kill 32 people,’’ university police Cmdr. Brad Wiesley said.

Several witnesses told investigators the student said he was ‘‘angry about all kinds of things from the fluorescent light bulbs to the unpainted walls, and it made him angry enough to kill people,’’ according to a police report. Witnesses ‘‘said they were afraid of him and afraid to come to class with him,’’ Wiesley said.

The student, identified by police as Max Karson of Denver, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of interfering with staff, faculty or students of an education institution. He had a court appearance set for Wednesday afternoon.

His father, Michael Karson, told the Camera newspaper that the comments may have been misinterpreted and questioned whether his son’s free speech rights had been violated.

‘‘I would have hoped that state officials would know their First Amendment better than they seem to,’’ he said.

University spokesman Bronson Hilliard said privacy laws prevented him from releasing personal information about the student.

At Oregon’s Lewis & Clark College, another student was detained by campus police Wednesday shortly before a vigil for the Virginia Tech victims when he was spotted wearing an ammunition belt. Portland police later determined that it was ‘‘a fashion accessory’’ made of spent ammunition, and said the man did not have a weapon. The belt was confiscated.

It’s an inside joke for “white girl with Asian guy”. Btw, CC censors the forum’s name.

Thanks, I hate sitting here trying to make up things that fit the letters–came up with some wild ones!

CONYAT - the situation was - according to the top cop - referred to the university’s disciplinary board - but neither girl pressed any chanrges. One of the girls discribed his actions as ‘‘annoying’’ - he was text messaging her - and requested that the police let him know that no further contact with her would be allowed.

Lorelei - another student from Boston Univ was arrested for emailing threats to an ex g/f - that he would kill her - her family - make it like VT. Chilling.
