<p>Breaking news–shooting on campus. Supposedly in a dorm housing several hundred students. One dead, one wounded. Campus shut down, gunman at large. </p>

<p>How horrible. A friend with a sister at Tech just emailed an update saying two are dead, but I imagine there’s a lot of rumor on their campus right now. Those poor kids.</p>

<p>This is the second time this academic year for this. I remember something similar happening during the first week of classes and thinking that the freshmen who had just arrived must have been terrified.</p>

<p>In addition to an earlier shooting today in West Ambler Johnston, there has been a multiple shooting with multiple victims in Norris Hall. Police and EMS are on the scene.</p>

<p>Police have one shooter in custody and as part of routine police procedure, they continue to search for a second shooter.</p>

<p>All people in university buildings are required to stay inside until further notice.</p>

<p>All entrances to campus are closed.</p>

<p>The incident last year was this according to MSNBC:
“In August 2006, the opening day of classes was canceled and the campus closed when an escaped jail inmate allegedly killed a hospital guard off campus and fled to the Tech area. A sheriff’s deputy involved in the manhunt was killed on a trail just off campus.”</p>

<p>CNN has live coverage right now, too. They have a student on the phone saying she heard the shooter shot his girlfriend and then the RA on the 4th floor of the first residence hall mentioned.</p>

<p>The second hall mentioned is an engineering building, not a residence hall, which I think was reported earlier.</p>

I</a> believe that particular story is about the incident in August, but all the news stations are reporting that today’s shooter is in custody.</p>

<p>There have been multiple shootings according to the VT website. One at Ambler Johnston dorm and a multiple shooting at Norris Hall. </p>

<p>We know many, many students at VT, sons and daughters of our friends, and friends of our children. I have talked with S1, and he said he has heard from several that they are ok. The friends I have talked to are frantic, but relieved that their children are safe. Haven’t talked to everyone, though. This is incredibly scary!!</p>

<p>I find this hard to believe, but the local TV station is reporting 20 dead. I hope this is wrong. </p>
