D wants a vacuum cleaner. Her apartment has mostly hardwood floor but some carpet and a rug. She would like it to have attachments so she can use it to clean her couch and also corners.

Any suggestions of what might work? No dyson, not in the budget.

For a fairly inexpensive vacuum, I love my Hoover Windtunnel Rewind T Series. It does great on carpet and bare floors and comes with attachments for upholstery. It is very easy to maintain- just push a button and the canister pops out to empty, it has an automatic wind up cord ( my favorite part), and has been very reliable. I think I got it on Amazon for around $100. My D has the same one but with an added “pet” feature- for bare floors, hers has a switch to turn off the beater bar so it doesn’t blow the dirt away from the vacuum. Any way, I have had no complaints about this vacuum. Very easy and inexpensive. I have had it for 3 years and it has been very durable!

I liked it enough to get one for myself (don’t know how effective it has been in her dorm yet - since I am not sure anybody has used it yet). I have used it and was very impressed with all the dust it picked up (guess my old vacuum had lost all its suction).

I figured it was cheap enough that if it never made it home at the end of the year I wouldn’t mind.
