I love my Miele canister, too! I’ve bought several attachments as the needs have arisen. We now have mostly hardwoods (had mostly carpets when I bought it five years ago), with a couple of area rugs and carpet up the stairs into our loft. I also have the retractable cord so I’m not fighting it as @prospect1 is suggesting. In fact, a retractable cord was a non-negotiable when I got the new vacuum.
