I also have hardwood floors and old wool rugs. Just a few small plush rugs that are under computer chairs. The vacuum has a separate rug attachment that does spin (is that a beater?) and it works better than my old Kirby. There is a pressure release valve so you can make it gentler on more delicate rugs. It’s relatively quiet too.
