Vacuum cleaners

@busyparent, definitely take that Miele to a repairman/dealer before you give up on it. Those Mieles can go waaay past 10 years with a little maintenance now and then. If you otherwise like the machine, get a repair estimate. You might find that for $100 or so it could be good as new. @teriwtt, my old Miele had a retractable cord, but it didn’t retract while I was vacuuming. It only retracted when I stepped on the “cord retract” button when I was finished. Do the cords on the newer models extend and retract during the course of vacuuming?

I have an Electrolux bag free vacuum . It is so so , but I do like that it doesn’t have bags. I empty it every other time I used it, thanks to my two shedding corgis

@prospect1 — Both my 18 year old and eight year old models had cords that retract when I depress that button. I learned to not let it ‘fly’ back into the casing as that caused a problem with the older model.

My sonic care vacuum cord retracts while it is running. Found that out by accident!

I used to have a house with a central vacuum system. Now everything just really falls short :frowning: I have a Dyson upright that is the pet one, and it’s ok, but it’s just not a central vac. Like going from a Ferrari to a Kia. It’ll get you there, but you won’t really enjoy it.

We love our Roomba electronic vacuum cleaners–we have two and each of our kids has one or two as well.

Our Miele is 17 years old. I snagged a second Miele at a thrift store for a ridiculously low price. One has the power brush (good for wall to wall carpet areas) and the other does not (good for the wood floors). Biased Miele fan here. The other bonus is we have more than one shop in the area that will clean them or repair them.
