Valentine's Day Ideas?

I ordered a bunch of girl scout cookies and plan to send them to DS, but they may not make it in time. Any good bargains out there that ship well?

Last year I sent a box with some candy, valentine window clings and other stuff I bought at Target. A box of inexpensive “classroom valentines” were a hit, D gave them out to her dorm friends.

Doesn’t Popcorn Factory have a nice Valentine’s Day tin? It was in Sunday’s coupons, I think.

I think I’m just going to send a card with some cash to my son. I’ve put together some really nice care packages for a few of the holidays and he really doesn’t want them. Not in a mean way, just in an honest way. He’s not a snacker and he isn’t into decorative things, so I think I will go with the cash option for Valentine’s Day. Sad.

In my sexist experience guys don’t care to be valentines. Though they would be perfectly happy to get stuff they want, and if the valentine is the excuse fine.

So if I wanted to give him something, I’d just send him something he wants and put a note “happy valentine’s day” or something.

Here’s some ideas:

Personally though, I wouldn’t do anything.

Valentines boxers from Target or Gap have become a tradition! I usually do little bags of heart candies, cards, etc. for his housemates. They probably think it’s weird, but I’m OK with that!

A moment of silence for the death of Romance in Monydad’s house! ; – )

Maybe boys aren’t into the window-cling thing, but a box from Mom with candies and a card will certainly be appreciated. Dad can sign it, too.

I send chocolates, heart candies, red slipper sox, stickers, window clings, red Mardi Gras beads and other trip trap I pick up at Walmart. And I am sending to cousins who are in college, not even my own kids.

Never had one send back the box! (Yes, they are all girls – for boys I guess I would stay more with the candy)

DS & friends are very grateful for all food gifts. They have an all-you-can-eat meal plan, but he says the desserts aren’t very good and can’t compete with the my brownies :-).

The popcorn factory coupon would have been perfect, but today is recycle day and it’s already gone. IF anyone still has the coupon code please post here!

He also mentioned that a friend’s Grandmother had sent some pears that were really good. I have never sent fruit, but that would be an idea.

I placed an order online (Walmart) and it’ll be shipped directly to his college address. I included stuff like Twizzlers, Gummy Bears, Cheese/Peanut Butter crackers, those individual cups of cereal (Frosted Flakes and Honey Nut Cheerios), Famous Amos Chocolate Chip cookies, and a few other things. It’s so much easier than buying the stuff at the store, packing it up, and then shlepping to the post office to mail it off.

Popcorn Factory $10 off coupon code: TAKE10
Valid once through 12/31/11

Costco ships a dozen of amazing chocolate covered Driscoll’s XL strawberries for $30 (S&H included!). Picky Costco shoppers gave this item 5 stars out of 5. You do not have to be a member to buy at Costco online. A dozen may not be enough for to satisfy a college boy’s sweet tooth, but a college girl will have enough to share with her buddies. :)

College males have been known to never check their mailboxes. I don’t send packages to my male child.
But thanks for the reminder since I will send a package to my female child. She checks her mail and will appreciate the thought.

I used my Groupon for Fairytale Brownies and sent S a box of those, and will be mailing a valentine with a $20 inside. ;)

^^^ lol mom60. Oldest son ran out of printer ink in Sept. of his soph. year. Being the great mom I am  I mailed him 2 new cartridges. When he came home for the summer he fessed up, at which time I got on the phone to the college mail room and they were kind enough to send them back. Hey…they aren’t cheap. Needless to say I have not mailed him a thing since.

Thanks snowball!!!

mom60, DS1 does check his mailbox. He’s in a private dorm, so it’s more accessible than for the average kid. His grandmothers and his aunt have been known to send cards with $$ and small gifts, so he’s pretty good about checking.

Houston Groupon’s are awful. We get body waxing and half-price teeth whitening. Bring on the Fairytale Brownies!!!

He knows we love him. He also knows we would be happy to send him care packages if he would pick them up. He has told us not to send anything since he knows himself.
It has taken 4 yrs of college for his grandmother to not send him a birthday card and check to his college address. Every year I hound my son to check his mail and call grandma to thank her. This year I did the same and he checked several times. Nothing from Grandma. When we were all together at Thanksgiving she gave him his card and birthday gift. She said she knew he didn’t check his mail.
He had me order a couple of books he needed for class on Saturday. I doubt he will pick them up in a timely manor. Since it is already week 3 of school don’t ask me how he is getting all his work done.

My D is in Europe for a semester abroad, so I ordered something handmade through the Etsy website. I clicked on ‘shop local’ and entered her country. Saves on shipping costs.
