<p>I was just wondering if any parents were sending there children any valentine gifts. I was about to hit the send button on a gift, then I hesitated because of this economy, do I really need to spend this money. Any thoughts?</p>

<p>Hmmm, I have always felt Valentine cards (and gifts, if any) are for my Valentine. Which wouldn’t be my kid, much as I love him.</p>
<p>I can’t imagine not sending something when ds is in college. I buy him presents now. But it wouldn’t be extravagant, just a favorite candy or homemade sweet.</p>
<p>My kid forgot a few items after Xmas break, so when I mailed them to him, I included a bag of valentine chocolates–the kind for elementary school kids with cute saying on the wrappers. Done.</p>
<p>My DH has always given his DDs a Valentine’s gift, once the went away to college, it was less appealing to pay the exorbitant costs to have flower delivered, but he finds something fun- one year they got Chias 
He will send something to the kid who is far away and do something for the nearby kids, setting a standard for the future DHs ;)</p>

<p>Sent a batch of chocolate chip cookies recently, so guess I’ll have to make something else for Valentine’s Day. I’m thinking either caramel popcorn–a big batch for friends on the floor–or caramel brownies, which are always a big hit. (Hmm…both caramel–what’s up with that?!!) </p>
<p>In either case, Saturday is going to be a busy day in my kitchen! Picked up some cute socks–red hearts and all–that will also make their way into the pkg. </p>
<p>I’m from the school of thought that I have as much fun preparing the gifts as they have in receiving them!</p>

<p>Wow, you people are good. H and I exchange cards, and he’ll often bring home flowers. It would never occur to me to give anything to my kids…am I peculiar?</p>
<p>I give something to S1(college sr.) because Valentine’s Day is also his birthday!
Asked him yesterday when he called what he would like. He said “books” and is sending me a list of ones he wants. I love it when they make it easy. Amazon,here I come.</p>

If anything, I’ll send a small gift card to a fast food place so it will go straight to his mailbox in the dorm.</p>
<p>MIL still sends each boy a card with $5 just like she has ever since they were born.</p>
<p>Target has a dollar section - easy to pick up a few Valentine items and throw in some cookies. Done.</p>
<p>I haven’t bought Valentines for my older girls for awhile. No one is really into it. I still buy a little something for my youngest.</p>
<p>I have never given my kids Valentine’s Day gifts…similar to my DH who doesn’t buy me anything for Mothers Day since “I’m not his Mother!”</p>
<p>Always gave a special treat (candy or cupcake) in lunch box.When they went to college I always sent a holiday package set to arrive about 1 week prior with something decorative and something edible.
This year, DD in off campus apartment with sliding doors, got cling/gel hearts (to replace or add to the Thanksgiving and Christmas door decor) and a bag of Valentine wrapped Andes Mints.</p>
<p>I sent each kid a small red gift bag of stuff (packed inside a small shipping box)—Hershey kisses, pretzels, a box of those sweetart colored heart candies, microwave popcorn, a $15 itunes card, and a valentines day card from the dog. I figured they’d be less embarrassed if the Valentine’s Day gift came from the dog rather than their Mom. :)</p>
<p>I have sent candy in previous years, but both kids have a spring break trip planned for the first week of March, so I’m thinking a card and a check. Not very exciting to you guys, but I think they will love it!</p>
<p>I ALWAYS send something to both my D and S. A little candy, a funny card, and some money typically. My parents always gave me a little something for valentines day. I really appreciated the thought.</p>
<p>And especially for D, it can be nice. She hasn’t had many long-term boyfriends and always tells me how most of her friends are “with someone” and that sometimes it makes her a little lonely. I just hate the idea of her not getting a valentine from ANYONE.</p>
<p>Just got back from the post office. Sent D2 a box w/ candy, dairy free cookies and candy bars that she loves from health food store and silly stuff (also got cling gel hearts.) She is a first-year really looks forward to boxes from home.</p>
<p>Will send D1 a bag of green peanut M & Ms. It’s her favorite candy and color. I only find it this time of year. She, as a junior, does not really care about a box of goodies. So the candy it just a thought. She has not been feeling well is is “overwhelmed” w/ school work, interviews for summer jobs, ecs, etc.</p>
<p>I’ll send a card, a batch of brownies, and a GC to one of my son’s favorite restaurants near his dorm on Monday. He should hopefully have the package Wednesday or Thursday.</p>
