Vanderbilt and on campus housing

I just found out that my son made it past round 1 in the internship selections at Vanderbilt. After doublechecking the web site I was reminded that this internship does not provide housing and that interns must make their own supervised housing arrangements.

I have an old friend who lives in Nashville that I was hoping Rob could rent a room from if accepted to this internship. But after searching Facebook I see that my friend is having a midlife crisis and enjoying the single life again. I don’t think he would be the best influence on my son so I’m now wondering what I would do for living arrangements.

Is dorm housing a scarcity at Vanderbilt? That would be the ideal set up. It is not offered as an option at the summer science web site. He is still a minor at 17 so maybe the sponsoring department does not want to be responsible for minors.

Has anyone faced this problem of making living arrangements in Nashville?

I failed to mention that my son is a high school junior and will begin his senior year after completing the 6 weeks of summer research at Vanderbilt (if he gets accepted.)

You should post this in the Vandi section, there might be some student is willing to sublet you their quarter for the summer.

I suggest calling the program office and asking them for suggestions. My D had a tough time finding a sublet a couple summers ago, because no one seemed to want undergrads … it would be tougher for a high school student. The program office may have some ideas.

I can’t imagine that the program doesn’t offer dorm housing or suggest options for a high school student. Perhaps you get more info when he definitely gets the internship.

^As a high school student myself, I’ve applied to multiple internships that don’t offer housing. I second posting in the Vandy forum if he gets it.
