Vanderbilt Class of 2024 ED1 Discussion Thread

Based on a Google search, this is what I found:

Vanderbilt University alumni provide first-year applicants with informational interviews through Commodore Recruitment Programs (CoRPs). Interviews are informational and serve as a tool for students to evaluate their fit with Vanderbilt University. While the interview is informational in nature, CoRPs alumni interviewers will also provide an evaluative report to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions that will be included in the applicant’s admissions file.

CoRPs alumni interviews are optional and are not a required part of the admissions process at Vanderbilt. Students who do not participate are not negatively impacted in the admissions review process in any way.

Not all students will be able to complete a CoRPs alumni interview. While a vibrant Commodore community exists around the globe, Vanderbilt does not have trained CoRPs alumni interviewers in every city or area. As a result, some students will not have the opportunity to participate in an interview.

Once you submit the Coalition Application , Common Application , or QuestBridge Application , you will receive an email with instructions for setting up a MyAppVU account. If you choose to participate in the program, you will opt in through your MyAppVU portal. Interviews always take place in a public space, such as a coffee shop or office lobby. Once the interview is complete, the interviewer submits a report to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions on your behalf. This report is added to your admission file and treated as an additional letter of recommendation.

Q: Does Vanderbilt require interviews?

A: No, interviews are not required for first-year applicants. Vanderbilt does, however, offer CoRPs alumni interviews for applicants to evaluate their fit with Vanderbilt. Not participating will not negatively impact our admissions decision. In fact, fewer than 20 percent of all first-year applicants participate in the CoRPs alumni interviewing program each year.

Q: How do I request a CoRPs interview?

A: Go to your MyAppVU portal! After you submit the Coalition Application, Common Application, or QuestBridge Application and create your MyAppVU account, you will see a link to the optional “CoRPs Interviewing Program” in the “Forms” section in your MyAppVU portal.

@Auntlydia @jack4300 If you open the portal and scroll past the Application Checklist, it’s right after the subheading titled “Forms”. It says CoRPs Interviewing Program, and then you just hit display and agree to the terms.

@nsquaredt thank you so much. I looked at the portal with D and although I saw the Application Checklist, I did not see any subheading entitled “Forms” - and neither did D. We will look at it again today and see what we are doing wrong.

@nsquaredt I requested the interview weeks ago and I still haven’t received any response.

I had my interview, and I’m kinda worried about how it went. My interviewer and I kinda connected with our mutual love of dogs, but I don’t know if that is the intellectual idea that you want. Also, I’m absolutely terrified for December 13.

There is no “forms” section or “CoRPS interview” section on son’s VU Portal. Any thoughts? He has emailed his regional counselor.

Does anyone have any information on when decisions come out? Also, does anyone know if they look at scholarship applications when making admission decisions?

The website says ED 1 decisions will be released by December 15. Given that the three merit scholarship applications are not due until December 1st, I would guess they would not have time to look at them before making the decisions.

Could the CoRPS interview button only show up if there is someone in your area available to do the interview? Maybe that’s why?

I don’t think so. I have the CoRPs button but haven’t been told there’s anyone in my area yet.

We also never saw a forms button on the Portal. Last week, D contacted her Admission rep, who said it was now too late to request an interview, but that it won’t hurt D’s application. I hope not, but D is busily polishing off additional supplements and trying to decide on ED2 in case Vandy rejects her.

This mix-up with the interview has made me appreciate my own experience thirty years ago. I typed my apps on my father’s typewriter, sent them away by mail, and was contacted for interviews when the interviewer called my house. I didn’t have to worry about portals, spam folders, lost emails or “demonstrated interest.” Life was so simple!

Hey guys! ED1 applicant here excited to hear back in 13 days! I wish you all the best of luck–hopefully we’ll get to be classmates next year!

I think you’ll know a bit sooner than that. 15th is a Sunday, and they won’t release over the weekend. Based on last year, my guess is next Thursday. Good luck!

This could be completely wrong just wanted to share… heard from a friend who has a relative in admissions that decisions will come out Thursday the 12th. I don’t know if this is true-- has anyone else heard this?

Hey guys. I think decisions come out on the 12th because, for the last 3 years, decisions have always come out the Thursday before the 15th. It’s not officially confirmed, however, until the day before decisions actually come out.

Just to clarify, are you saying the applicants will receive an e-mail 24 hours before decisions are released with an exact day/time to log into application portal? There is not a lot of specific information posted out there, so this is extremely helpful.

You’re right with that! Expect decisions to come out December 13 at 5:30 CST

Hello! ED1 applicant here! Is anyone else doing AFROTC crosstown? Freshman can’t have cars on campus so I’m not too sure how to get between the schools haha

It seems much quieter in here than the last few years. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing, lol.

Have they ever released earlier than this Thursday? Any chance at all it would be Tuesday or Wednesday?

Can’t be bad?
