P.S. All that are looking for roommates, where do you see that you can pick your roommate? I thought Vandy was random selection?
S got in. HS doesn’t compute GPA, but A student and highest rigor at extremely competitive NJ HS. 1550 SAT- 800M 750RW 790 SAT II His essays were excellent and unique. Mostly athletic ECs, but combined his sports with significant charitable and volunteer work around his pursuits.
@DoubleLegacy you can go random or choose a roommate. You won’t be able to officially make your selection until later on when you register for housing (which I believe happens sometime after regular decision announcements are made, at least that’s how it was for me). Usually once people start getting in, admitted student facebook groups or ones called like “Vandy 2024 Girls Roommate Search” will pop up so those that want to can find someone to room with!
Accepted- spent the past year and a half trawling threads like these so I hope this can help somebody!
I’m a dual citizen from Western Australia with Aus/US citizenship and I was admitted to the HOD major in Peabody College.
ACT: 34C- 36E 30M 36R 32S
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): No GPA or ranking but I had really good grades for the schooling system here and my counselor told me he attempted to explain my achievement in his letter.
Biggest ECs were:
Extensive work in the family business for my entire life
Started Amazon FBA business with 20k sales
School Rowing Captain
Really heartfelt common app essay about working with my father and its impact on me wanting to be an entrepreneur. The supplemental essay was about the business I started.
Had a great conversation with my hilarious interviewer who was located in Australia and understood the US/Australia perspective I have.
Teacher recs were strong I think because nobody here applies to US colleges so they were eager to help. I’m in a small class (75 students) with great relationships developed with all faculty over the years. Had an additional rec from my rowing coach.
It definitely helped that I’m a US citizen living internationally, but I loved Vandy as soon as I heard about it and I let that show in my application. The advice I would give to future applicants is to bring your true self across as much as you can. If the vibe of what you write about yourself (essays and ECs) doesn’t match up with what your teachers say about you, I feel like it’s a red flag.
It’s my dream school and was one of the best moments of my life when I found out I was in- super hyped to move over next year. Anchor down!
I believe Vanderbilt recently updated their roommate policy for first-year students, and now the university assigns all freshmen to a roommate based upon a short questionnaire, and no longer allows students to try to “match” as an option.
I cannot remember where I saw that posted recently (FB?) but here is the link describing the process from their website: https://www.vanderbilt.edu/ohare/first-year-student-housing/
Our oldest S was just accepted to the School of Engineering last night - we are thrilled but still in shock!!! Congrats to all other accepted!

My D got accepted in Arts and Science as a Law, History, Society major. 32 ACT. GPA 4.4. weighted. 7 APs. She is a top-ten nationally ranked debater. Her numbers were very good but not exceptional. They must have admitted based on ECs and essays.
