Does Chancellor’s decision come out at the same time as CV?

earlier than CV

Source? Evidence?

Hi, curious if there’s been any discussion about the article in the Vanderbilt Hustler on 2/28 discussing ED I and II and deferrals.

S24 was deferred ED I. According to the article, quoting the Dean of Admissions, about 800 candidates were deferred between ED I and ED II. And the freshman class will be composed of 10-12% deferred students.

Trying to read the tea leaves, which is probably pointless, but would appreciate any insight.

If 400 were deferred ED I, would it make sense to assume that a smaller number are still left? Since one would assume some number probably applied somewhere else ED II? So, there might not be 800 in the deferred pool, but maybe 700 or 750?

Also, I assume deferred students have a higher yield rate than RD, but is it 100%? In other words, if they’re shooting for 165 students in the first year class from deferral, would you assume that means admitting more than 165? Like 175 or 185?

Looking for any potential good news I can find.

Vanderbilt is one that does accept a good chunk of deferred kids. They have a higher acceptance rate than other RD kids, historically. My daughter was also deferred ED1, but we have definitely advised her to treat it as a rejection and to get excited about her other options. Of course she is hoping she is one of the 25% they likely take but I don’t want to get her hopes up. It sucks for sure. Where else did he apply? It’s hard to see qualified kids not get their dream school but she is starting to get excited about her other acceptances. Still waiting on 8 RD, not including vandy.

Thanks. That’s probably the right attitude. The deferral was definitely a blessing and a curse. Had he been rejected, he probably would have ED II’d somewhere. But with the deferral he wanted to stay alive with his dream school, Vandy. Especially with Vandy’s experience with deferral. Had he known that Vandy was deferring 60% more this year than last would he have made the same choice? I’m not sure.

He’s been accepted to Maryland (Honors, in-state), Pitt, Indiana, and U Miami (FL).

Like your daughter he has another 8 (BC, BU, Bucknell, Northwestern, Wash U, Wake, Wisconsin, Michigan) + Vandy coming in the next 3-4 weeks.

Good luck to your daughter!

They sound similar and she made the same (now misguided) calculus not to ED2. Although that would have been to Emory. She has been accepted now at UGA, Vermont, Richmond, UVA (oos - shocked actually), and just got told she’s a finalist for Emory scholars so they admitted her early - glad she didn’t waste the ED2 :joy:. Waiting on - Columbia, Penn (assuming no to both, applied just to see), BC, tufts, Colgate, middlebury, Georgetown, wake. Best of luck to you guys. He’s got some great options and I’m SURE he’s going to see some RD acceptances. If they make the cut we will see you in Nashville!

Wow!! Congrats! Those are great choices!

This is such a messed up process, glad your daughter has seen so much success.

Based on where she’s gotten in, I’m sure she’ll get a lot more good news in the coming weeks.

Hope it works out for them both with Vandy.

Is every deferred student here a&s or engineering? I can’t find anyone deferred from Peabody

International parent here - why would we submit if we are not looking for FA? For a few but not all schools we were asked to do an international students form confirming this but no financial data Vandy simply mark in the portal as international not applying for need based aid without further data needed.

S24 was deferred A&S.

Because financial situation is a factor of admission. Can i speak my opinion? i am afraid of being attacked. Because Vanderbilt will ask idoc after you get in. So they may need this for confirmation. Just my assumption. There is written in college website if is the school need aware for international or need based. Pomona wrote this that financial aid is a fator of admission for international students.

Actually for universities like Vanderbilt, Pomona and other highly selective and ranked universities financial aid is taken into evaluation at the last stage. Admissions evaluators are only told that they are need-based candidate or not. In the end Financial aid office decides who to give aid and prefers them with less ā€œneedā€.

I am not sure about the admission process for international and domestic students. We never know both processes. However, we understand that full-payment students are in a better situation than those needing financial aid. I think admissions get hints from the Common App about who applied for financial aid, etc. For domestic students coming from private high schools, they are more likely to afford tuition. I personally think if you apply as an internal applicant, you can receive financial aid with strong academic transcripts and strong extracurricular activities.

10-12% of the class, not the admitted students. So the number would hover between 160-192. Assuming 100% yield rate, the acceptance rate comes down to 20-24%.

Thanks. That’s how I read it, that 10-12% of the first year class would be formerly deferred applicants, so you’re numbers sound about right to me.

Sorry if this has already been covered, but is there a strong sense when RD will come out? Seems like historically, it’s prior to Ivy Day, which I understand will be 3/28 this year–does that mean Vanderbilt RD is likely 3/27, or maybe even earlier in the week. Seems like at least a couple years ago it came out on a Monday?

any news on CV/Chancellor’s scholarship?
