Vanderbilt Waitlist 2024

Hey guys! Disappointed after seeing that they admitted 800 students more, but really hoping that the waitlist is utilized this year. Any internationals here who were waitlisted, like me?

The data is a bit old but still helpful: In 2014 Vanderbilt put 6,018 students on wait-list, 4,536 accepted a spot on the list and 210 were eventually admitted. The Washington Post’s Nick Anderson did some excellent reporting on this in April 2016 “Top Colleges put thousands of applicants in wait-list limbo, and some won’t admit any.” The article includes an interactive table with data for many schools. In a most unfortunate development, many schools removed their wait-list data from their Common Data Sets (CDS) as a result of this article. Vanderbilt, quoted extensively in the article even went as far as to strip the CDS data for all prior years…without noting on their CDS that they had erased data. Very unethical behavior on the part of Vanderbilt. Hope this helps families make informed college decisions!

The Vanderbilt response was warm but sadly lacking in any data that can help wait-listed families! How many offers, how many accepted spot etc!

Thank you for sharing the email! It’s helpful to know that they don’t expect to start pulling from the waitlist until May - I know some schools have already started…

i genuinely just don’t think there will be a lot of movement on the waitlist this year at all. they usually admit half their 1,600 class ED, leaving 800 spots for RD. Usually they admit 2,000-2,200 students RD to fill those 800 spots, this year they admitted 2,900 students to fill those 800 spots. Obviously with COVID-19, their yield may be lower but who knows how much lower, it will probably be offset by those extra admits. It seems like they accounted for their low yield due to Corona by accepting those extra students. I would say there’s little hope for waitlisted people this year unfortunately. :frowning:

Yeah, I think so too. They’ve admitted 800 students more this year, so those extra admits themselves could fill the entire RD class.

Was anyone able to find an email address for their regional admissions counselor? Voicemail at admissions office says it is clearly visible under their pic on website, but it isn’t.

The AO responsible for the student’s region is on the first page of the student’s portal. If you hover over their name with the mouse, it will give you their email address.

Has anyone gotten any emails from Vanderbilt regarding there waitlist? On the portal it says "please be sure to continue responding to each of the Waitlist Update emails we will send over the next several weeks to let us know that you are still interested in enrolling at Vanderbilt. " I haven’t gotten any of these emails. Have you guys?

@2kewl4skewl yes, she didnt really answer me at all. All she said was that there were many reasons for admitting those extra students and that every year they “intend to use the waitlist.” basically an answer we all figured.

Does anyone have any idea when the first wave of acceptances (if any because of all the extra admitted students) would be released this year. I believe the last two years it has been the first Friday in May but this year that falls on May 1st. I assume they won’t release decisions on the deposit deadline, so anyone have any idea when they would release them?

Just looked at some waitlist FAQs from previous years on Vanderbilt’s website. As recent as 2015 they state that waitlist admission is need aware. Is this still true?

I believe it is still need aware, but I’ve seen people post in previous years’ forums that have gotten pulled from waitlist and gotten significant aid. So I don’t think financial need is a deal breaker.
