Vanderbilt Waitlist 2024

@currycartel yes i got that too

@ts1234 Thanks for your info regarding the waitlist from previous years…it was very helpful! They just sent out the second email confirming interest on the waitlist. Do you think that this means the second wave will now come sooner? Possibly early next week?

@user1289012 of course, no problem at all! I really do hope you get in!

I’m really surprised that the second email went out so soon! They gave everyone who got an offer on Friday until May 4 to accept their spot off the waitlist, so I didn’t think that they would send out another email until after May 4 (and in fact, probably not until May 6/7, since you would think they’d need some time to sort through the waitlist again).

But the fact that the second email has come out already —and that too on a Sunday — makes me think that either a lot of people didn’t accept their offers from the first wave or they simply didn’t make a lot of offers to start off with. Either way, that bodes well for people who are still waiting to hear back.

I think you’re right in thinking that the second wave is not too far. How long did they give you to reply to the second email? I’d expect they’ll get back to you in 2-3 days, maybe even less, after the deadline to reply is past.

Interested in seeing other responses… Last time they sent one like this before offering admission…

@td1234 They said ASAP and no later than Wednesday May 6. In the last interest email, they said reply no later than April 27th and the first wave was May1st. Do you think they will follow a similar timeline and release the second wave possibly like this Friday May 8th? Agh this whole process is so nerve wracking…

They need to know who they need to sort through before they start sorting through them. I think that’s why they made the request while still waiting for the first wave to accept. It makes total sense.

@user1289012 hmm, so it seems as if there were four days between the first email deadline and the first wave. So based of that, the second wave should come out May 10. But that’s a Sunday, so it seems unlikely. I’d say either Friday the 8th or Monday the 11th. I’m thinking the 8th is a more likely outcome since everything’s going much faster than usual this year it seems.

@HokieCrazy well, I don’t think it’s fair of you to say it makes “total sense.”

This is because of the fact that if you look at the data from last year (and the year before that), they didn’t send out the second email until after they’d heard back from all the people who they’d offered a spot to in the first wave. In fact, they didn’t send out the third email until the deadline to reply to a second wave offer had passed, nor did they send out the fourth email until the deadline to reply to a third wave offer had passed.

So, if we’re basing this discussion on data, and not just what we may feel or think, then it is definitely surprising that the second email was sent out before the deadline to reply to a first wave offer has passed.

Maybe they learned that they were wasting time by not overlapping the time frames. To me, it makes total sense for them to request the information, so they can make a timely decision as soon as the first wave’s information is available. Speculating here, but perhaps they know they are going to iterate more waves because of the current situation, so they are trying to be as efficient with their time as they can be.

@HokieCrazy I see now where you’re coming from! If it’s greater efficiency you’re hoping for, then I’m with you all the way!

Do you guys think they only accepted people that do not need aid or is it purely just the academics?

They’re pretty clear that they reserve the right to be need-aware in their waitlist admissions. How much that factors in, especially considering budget deficits during Covid-19, is anyone’s bet.

I would guess towards whatever brings in the most money for them…if I had a guess.

Of the people accepted, did they receive any aid? For those who did not get in, whats your financial status?

Wait, so if you get in off the waitlist, you can only see your financial aid package after accepting your offer of admission? But what’s if it’s not enough???

I got off of the waitlist in the first wave, and I received a generous financial aid package. I was surprised their reputation for being generous with financial aid still held true during this time, especially considering the loss in revenue. As for the timeline when you receive an offer, there are 2 steps. You have to either accept or decline to receive an offer of admission, and then you are able to claim or turn down a spot in the class. I waited around 2 hours after I opted to receive an offer of admission before my financial aid package showed up, so I was able to see if I could afford it before I committed (I had 72 hours to decide after opting to receive an offer of admission). Hope this helped!

hoping my financial aid would be good if i get off. nothing worse than getting in and not being able to afford it :frowning:

Hey, I’m an incoming freshman to Vandy (Class of 2024) as a CV scholar and wanted to clarify some stuff for you guys on the waitlist (from what I know). Vanderbilt does not admit by major. The major you out down on your application was really just for them to gauge your academic interests. All freshman come in undecided and cannot declare a major until their sophomore year. Plus many kids major across schools.

Is anyone else refreshing their email nonstop despite knowing you won’t get in today? Ugh.

I got off the waitlist!! I received an email around 12:30 today. I’m oos and in the College of Arts and Sciences!
