what are my chances at getting in to: cornell, USC, rice, vanderbilt, chicago, hopkins, northwestern, emory, notre dame, NYU, brandeis, or lehigh??

…to be honest, I’m hesitant to chance you…only because I’m a high school sophmore and am less than experienced in the realm of college admissions…the only insight I have is to write a killer essay for U Chicago, which supposedly has the potential to sway a decision.

Please feel free to chance me for U Chicago
I am a female sophmore from Memphis, TN attending a private all girls prep school known for its rigorous academics and dare I say it, really ****ty teachers…kind of a lousy combination. I will not be requesting financial aid.

Freshman Year classes:

Honors Biology (.5 pts added to GPA) A
Honors Geometry (.5 Pts added to GPA) B
Advanced Honors English (1 pt added to GPA) B
Advanced Honors Spanish III (1 Pt added to GPA)B+
World history (honors wasn’t offered) (no pts added to GPA)B+
4.3W 3.7 UW
Ex curriculars: School newspaper, numerous clubs, (live poet’s society, Earth club, wordsmith (placed second in the city), inducted into the National Thesbian Society, Runner up for a guest editor position with Justine Magazine (name published in the actual magazine), Model UN, participated in summer@brown intro to medicine course, was a member of Vocal Point (a by audition only chior), editor for the Year book

10th grade ECS (won’t bother to post stats, as I only have one quarter’s worth of grades)

a cast member of Grease, the musical, tutor children in Spanish, have become an active member of my church’s youth group, a member of student council, in the play, “the house of Bernarda Alba”, teaching myself how to play the guitar (and taking lessons), live poet’s society, the school newspaper, the “invisible children” club, and was invited and attending the NYLF on Medicine. Also, I plan to apply to the Iowa Young Writer’s studio and attend, assuming I’m accepted. I am a member of the Spanish club and SADD. Also, I’ve sumbmitted a proposal to implement a program entitiled, “AIM (art in Memphis)”… we would collect art supplies and distribute them to local schools and host painting/ drawing workshops to encourage participation in the artistic fields.

all your grades and peripherals look great but im also not experienced in college admissions because i live in canada where the admission process is much easier… however judging from what i see i think you have a very realistic chance of being admitted… but if you were to be involved in some sporting events, it’ll make you even more well-rounded

thanks, I apprechiate the input Also, looking at your profile stats, your almost guaranteed accceptance to NYU…Most of the others listed (I can’t speak for Brandeis or Lehigh) are crap shoots even for the best students…being Asian doesn’t help (yall are all brilliant), but the research in a national genetic lab should help you stand out. Also, being international (well, Canadian) means (I’m almost certain) that you go in a different applicant pool, which may incraese your chances.

Not particularly. Are you requesting financial aid? Internationals requesting financial aid definitely have a hard time in gaining admission; without such request, your chances may increase slightly (in comparison with domestic applicants).

With the information given, I would guess:

Vandy: High match
NYU: High match
Chicago: Reach

This would be if you were a domestic applicant. I can’t evaluate your chances as an international applicant until I receive the info I previously referred to.

ya im applying for financial aid, but i heard that most american schools dont give much money to international students… is that true?

that’s what i heard… im not sure if canadians are in the same applicant pool as other internationals. if you need massive fin. aid, apply to need blind schools like williams.

any insight on getting accepted to Chicago?
Also, unweighted, is a 3.7 UW GPA (with lots of honors) comprable to those frequently admitted? seriously, I am NOT trying to get attention here. People are regularly rejected from Stanford with a 4.0…I just want some clarity.

well chicago has a relatively higher acceptance rate cause it doesn’t have early decision, but peripherals are just as important as grades… the people who got 4.0 gpa’s and got rejected probably didnt show much interest outside of school, dont show social or leadership abilities, and dont do volunteering… however you have all those EC’s so you still got a reasonable shot at chicago
