Variation on washer/dryer threads

My basement dwelling 18 yo Kenmore washer and dryer are on their last legs and I’m looking for replacements.
On a related note, a few years ago my H and his buddies, none of them particularly handy, made a project of finishing the basement; this was long after our current w/d were installed.
Segue to H measuring the basement stairs last week and discovering they are too narrow for any washer/dryer to fit down; in fact the existing w/d will have to be dismantled to get them out of the house. I’ll pause here to mention that I deserve kudos for resisting the urge to remind H that I’d been telling him for years that the stairs were too narrow…
Anyway, after looking at all options, we determined that the least expensive solution will be to put a new w/d in the mudroom but this will only work if we stack them.
This is my long winded way of asking if anyone has had experience with stacking full size w/d? We will have to get front loaders and I’ve been eyeing the Whirlpool Duet. Any thoughts or experiences with stacking would be appreciated.

I do not have experience but my new Electrolux front loaders came with stacking instructions.

Mominva,I didn’t realize Electrolux made washing machines, how do you like them?

In the last house, we had Asko and Bosch stacking washer/dryers, which were not quite full size but were certainly adequate. The new house came with a stacking front-loading Maytag set which also does a nice job and is a bit larger–a king-size (but fairly thin) quilt fits, for example.

Sarha,
I love them!!
We looked at many front loaders when redoing the laundry area.
We ended up with 2 options due to our configuration (needing the washer on the right and the dryer on the left). The Electrolux (and the brand I don’t recall at the moment) have reversible doors.
I was surprised that there is not a water level control. The machine senses the weight of the load and controls the water level based on that.
The fastest I can finish a load is 36 minutes (18 wash and 18 dry) depending on the options you select.
We got ours at ‘Best Buy’.

Oh, dmd’s post reminded me: I looked at the Asko (we love our Asko DW) it might have been the other brand; but it was a smaller capacity for a larger price.

Thanks for the replies; I’m going to go out and check Electrolux,Asko and Bosch.
We’ve been so lucky with our long-lived w/d that I was unaware of the wide world of laundry options out there
Mominva, I really like the idea of the washer adding water based on weight. I’m never really sure and usually err on the side of adding too much water.
