<p>Does anyone know if they will be cutting the Varsity programs this year that were on the chopping block last year? I think fencing and wrestling were on the list.</p>
<p>This is a quote from the Brown Daily Herald: “In a report sent to the Brown community yesterday at noon, Simmons wrote that the continued presence on campus of the three programs initially targeted for elimination by the Athletics Review Committee in April should be dependent on the teams’ ability to raise enough money over the next year to be self-funded.”</p>
<p>I don’t know if the Corporation has decided yet, but that’s a reasonably good sign that they’ll continue to exist.</p>
<p>Do you think so? I’d say it leaves those programs to sink or swim on their own - sinking if they don’t independently raise the necessary funds to keep the program operating. In the long run, this does not bode well.</p>
<p>At least one of them at least managed to raise the money pretty easily, from what I remember, even before this was suggested.</p>
