My top 3 choices for schools I’ve been accepted to are-
Vassar College
George Washington University
University of Florida (in-state)
I really don’t know what size school I want to attend, and I think I’d be happy at any of these schools, but I wanted some opinions on where to go. I would like to be a computer science major and a minor in film would be a plus, since I love film. I love the outdoors including hiking, surfing, rock climbing, and just any adventures really. UF would be the cheapest option because of in state tuition.
Check out the Vassar Outing Club on Instagram. There are trips all the time. Vassar has both Film and CS. Your class sizes will be small at Vassar and you will have opportunities to do research and intern. Can you visit? If $ is an issue, then definitely Florida. Congrats!
You have been accepted to three very different colleges. My son is a sophomore at Vassar where he is majoring in Physics.Vassar is working to beef up its CS. Professors are incredible accessible to students and there are no TAs. President Elizabeth Bradley who just finished her first year at Vassar is outstanding. She came from Yale and is very focused on residential life and bringing interesting speakers to campus. The food has dramatically improved (they switched vendors) and the campus is quite dynamic. They are also very focused on helping students get jobs and run a career week-end for sophomores.Film is a strong program at Vassar.
I am not a fan of GW because they do not have a dining hall which seems to negatively impact students’ social life.
So I received my financial aid decision from Vassar not too long ago and they offered me just 1,200 short of the full cost of attendance. Knowing this, and that money won’t be an issue, what school do you think would be the smartest choice?
It looks like Kiplingers likes UF better. And forbes #2 best value. Not number 200. Number 2 Also USNWR 9 public university and number 42 overall. And the public top ten are in front of uf just barely are always being compared to the uber elites. So it’s a an 1/8 of a notch below them but a real wonderful school
Two completely different schools. For the bang for the buck UF is really hard to beat. And if you are premed it is number two in most placements of all schools in 2017
And with bright futures it would be tuition free instate. Plus the weather etc
Not to knock Vassar it’s a great great school. Although it’s more of a vibrant dance and theatre environment than SEC sports.
GWU is great too. No real campus to speak of but in the heart of dc if you have an interest in public policy Ir foreign service or government
Were you able to go visit Vassar? My daughter is happy there and I went to UF and had a good experience. Very different schools, so it just depends on what kind of college and academic experience you want.
Can you visit? Have you read Fiske and the school specific threads here? If finances aren’t an issue, then you need to focus on which school has the academics you want and the best fit for you.
I don’t know anything about UF’s location, but I would think access to outdoorsy activities would be easier at Vassar than GW.
Vassar definitely has direct access to outdoors activities. GWU mostly walking to class but VA and MD isn’t that far away for beautiful countryside. UF (always good BTW) has really upped its game in the quality of accepted students and rigor. It’s a great admission for any student now.
Couldn’t find too more different yet equally excellent choices. Best of luck.
