While I did find a thread comparing Vassar and Dartmouth in the archives, I never got a sense of the “vibe” each campus would have. As someone who’s a bit more liberal and humanities oriented, would I feel more at home attending Vassar or Dartmouth?
My opinion, offered with the caveat that “vibe” is a relationship between a student and a college, and not just a characteristic of the college itself: Vassar.
Vassar: More liberal bent, no greek life.
Dartmouth: More conservative bent , more jocky, more preppy, more outdoorsy (although you’ll find a real mix of people), greek life.
Would I have more trouble finding work if I were to choose Vassar over Dartmouth?
By finding work, do you mean an on campus job?
No, just generally after college.
Nope. Both schools are well regarded. My recommendation for finding a job after college is to use the college placement office and to secure summer jobs and internships to help build a resume.
Both Vassar and Dartmouth and amazing schools and you wouldn’t have a problem getting a job after from both. I toured Vassar last week and if you are looking for a school with a great vibe, Vassar is the place. I can’t talk to that about Dartmouth because I haven’t been.
Vassar probably has a better reputation as a place for thinkers-intellectuals who are capable of thinking outside the box, thinking clearly and being creative. Dartmouth doesn’t.
