Vegas shooting, 50 dead

I’ve tried to convince myself that in the USA we would never have to get used to mass shootings. I suppose I was being naive. My prayers go out to the victims and their families.

I woke up to the news. My future son-in-law and few of my nephews love music festivals, and I used to like to go to concerts. It just brings home that few things in life that we enjoy will no longer be the same. We’ve had so many natural disasters in the last month. Instead of helping each other and focusing taking care of those people, we will now need to deal with this man made disaster. My heart goes out to all those families and victims.

Terrifying for those there, what a nightmare. So sorry for all those families who lost someone last night.

I like concerts as well. It definitely makes you think twice.

I woke up a few hours ago and it was 2 dead. Now this.

Disturbing beyond words. He just held the trigger and kept spraying.

64 year old (apparently) white male according to early pictures. I won’t link to one because so often they are wrong and I would hate for an innocent person to be dragged through the mud.

This required planning and preparation. I’m sick over the thought but not at all surprised. I will always fear an American male with a gun way more than any other kind of terrorist.

ETA: I’ve been to a Jason Aldean concert. I love concerts. :frowning:

I am beyond sick of gun violence. Senseless. Condolences to the families. 50 dead, 200 or more injured. Why any civilian should have a machine gun is beyond me.

Congress agrees. Nothing legal about a civilian owning an automatic weapon.

Automatic or semi automatic. No reason for a civilian to have these, IMO. The news are referring to this as a guy schooling fish in a barrel. Horrific. Truly horrific.

I’d like to think this tragedy, gut-wrenching to wake up to, will result in reassessing our gun control policies in this country. But, when nothing happens when a bunch of kindergartners get mowed down in Sandy Hook, CT, I’m not holding my breath. The 5th anniversary of Sandy Hook is this December. Nothing has changed.

This country is making me sad and embarrassed too frequently these days.

Collectively, as citizens of this country, we own this. If you are not supporting and voting for candidates who support gun control as well as access to easy and affordable mental health counseling, you are part of the problem, IMO.

My heart goes out to the victims and their loved ones. As @jym626 said, this is truly horrific.

Ds2 was there with work, offstage. He’s safe, but when he called it was chaos. The worst of it was when people erroneously said there were multiple shooters and he didn’t know where to run.

Now reported that 406 people were taken to the hospital. So at least 50 dead, over 400 injured. The work of one man.

@“Youdon’tsay” hugs to you and your son! =((

The numbers keep rising. What is the matter with people???

Glad he is safe, YDS. The emotional is just as devastating.

How do you prevent something like this from happening? If we find out he’s known to have psychiatric problems, guess we can again argue that people in that category could/should be prevented from legally owning guns. But if he’s your “normal” US citizen what do you do? And in this case, you can’t argue that more civilians having guns could prevent tragedy - not when the shooter is 30+ floors up.

Terrible. The hospitals must be overwhemed. S has plans to go to Vegas next weekend. Puts a real chill on even thinking of having a good time there.

Again, the guns he was using cannot be legally owned by civilians. The laws are and have been in place. He got them anyway. Illegally. And used them with horrific results.

I’m going to Vegas this afternoon. This is such sad news.

Normal? While I get your gist, that is not a word I’d use associated with this person. They are now saying he had 10 weapons in the hotel room. They also are saying at some point he used his girlfriend’s ID to “check in” to the hotel.I find that highly unlikely. A year or so ago we were checking into a hotel in Vegas that was reserved by our DS#2. They would not let us check in until he was there with us.

As I always do, I checked my phone for the time this AM. I saw the news notification and I am so saddened and sickened by this.
