Vegetable Garden 2014 Update

Shoot! They are on google+.

Mu daughter gave me some of these gro-pods - she got them from a client - anyone ever tried one???

You all have got me keeping an eye on my mint seeds. They’ve sprouted already. Looks like 100% germination. Wonder how long it will be before I need to transfer them out of the small Herb pot they are in?

On the tomato front, the Lemon Boy plant I purchased from the nursery looks like it’s dying. It wasn’t the healthiest one on the shelf when I bought it, but it was at discount and I thought I could improve its health. Well, even good dose of organic nitrogen fertilizer hasn’t really helped it. If the wilting doesn’t improve by the time my other tomato seedlings get tall, them I will pull it out.

Cherry 100s blossoms are in bloom, as are a couple of Bell Pepper and Hungarian Pepper plants. Okra has sprouted and looks healthy.

I had one green pepper, one red and two jalapenos just wither and drop dead. Not sure why, the ones around them look fine. I’m going to replace them today. It almost feels like watching paint dry as I wait to see how everything is doing.

Well I found out I have one volunteer cucumber in the front garden. My husband jokingly said if I go out and stare at the garden some more I might find volunteer zucchini.

Husband Google sounds like one of those spousal experts, and a fellow I’d like to have a beer with.

Mint?
Are you growing it in a pot or as a crop?

Oh NO–Don’t let that mint out of the pot! ;)

Everything looks great here so far!

Hope to get to my community garden today. Everything looked good except the peas and the kale on Friday - they have been munched on. Think I’m going to pull the peas out and plant pole beans instead.

You’ve been warned!! Leave the mint in the pot unless you want loads of it and nothing else!!

Well, I checked my garden bed and I have 4 June bearing strawberry plants, 2 have red and delicious looking fruits. Unfortunate, the snails got to it before I noticed it. I should have put a beer cup out there for the snails. Next year, I will order lots of the strawberry plants and plan them on this sunny side slope.I plan to turn my garden into edible landscape. The blueberries are delicious and fruitful. Anybody know where I can order Alpine strawberry plants for cheap, they are very expensive but I don’t have confident I can sow them successfully from seeds.

1.0.2. F today…hanging shade cloth…gasp…

Whoa that’s hot!!!

I wonder if that is what I saw in another garden today. Almost like a shade tent - could it be, for some cooler weather crops???

Took my half eaten peas sprouts out today. Replanted green beans and will get chicken wore this week to put around the raised bed. Everything else looked pretty good. I have a couple banana peppers evident now.

Can someone remind me exactly what I should pinch off on the tomato plants??? I need specifics!!!

pinch just the flowers when you put them in the ground. I am not a fan of pinching
the “suckers” that grow in the “armpits”,

unless you are using a “Florida weave” for staking.

Around here I need all the leaves and shade I can get, and usually lose some to disease.,

My mint is in a small pot. Just the size for a window sill. Should I transplant to a larger pot later?

DrGoogle, keep an eye on this site if you want to plant edible landscaping:

<a href=“Order Fruit Trees Online | Mail Order Nursery - Raintree Nursery”>http://www.raintreenursery.com/home.php</a></p>

Their catalog is pretty bare now that the bareroot plant shipping window is closed, but it will get updated with a large selection in time for the next spring season. They sell the most amazing alpine strawberries that I planted in my yard a few years ago - they seeded a bunch of babies and spread out on their own.

@BunsenBurner, thanks for the catalog, I’ve ordered from them before but forgot the name recently. Their blueberries are very good. That’s good to know about the alpine strawberry’s babies, maybe I should order just a few to start.

I planted a few frageria vesca a few years ago, although mostly I have Chiloensis.
The Vesca are so cute!
They spread a lot.

Apparently topped out at 105 today. 103 tommorow.

Where are you, Shrinkrap? I just finally got my garden in!

my tomato plants are growiny too tall!
