Personally I haven’t owned any since like fifth grade, but the more I think about it the more I realize they’re really a heck of a lot better than laces. You just pull the barbed end until it’s tight enough, then press down on the non-barbed part. Simple, and a good velcro won’t deteriorate easily.

So why is it that at some point in childhood we start exclusively wearing laced shoes? I can understand them on dress shoes and such, but on sneakers they seem rather… impeding. There are many opportunities for the laces to get undone, hell even by simply walking around my laces eventually get loose.

I think its a natural progression from lil kid to big kid status. Besides, had you continually worn velcro shoes you would never learn how to tie them. Idk, but wouldn’t it be hard to run, play basketball, workout, etc. in velcro shoes? I’m not sure if velcro could secure your shoes onto your feet as securely. I’ve never seen a pro athlete wear velcro. Besides weren’t they created for little kids who couldn’t tie their shoes ?

You know what I miss? Those jelly sandals lol.

Anyway- I use laces, but unless I’m sure that I might get water in my shoes, I use my tennis shoes as slip on shoes. Can’t remember the last time I tied my normal tennis shoes…

Dude, you’re doing it wrong. I tie my shoes maybe once every 3 weeks, normally I just slip my feet into them and they fit just right. Laces are more adjustable and can be tightened and loosened as needed whereas velcro straps aren’t as adjustable. Remember to double knot!

It’s kind of like saying, adults get food stains on our clothes sometimes so why don’t we wear bibs when we eat*? Because it’s expected adults can handle eating without bibs even though it would reduce stains.

the exception is lobster bibs, but those are reserved for shellfish

Even good velcro gets stuff stuck in it so the dont work well after awhile. I kind of like laces. Hay! I was thinking light up shoes. If they were green or blue maybe, but not red. If your shoes arent new you usually dont have to tie them every time you wear them, unless they are your sports shoes.

My fiance had a pair of velcro shoes when I met him. They didn’t look like the little kid ones but were still definitely velcro. I think they were reeboks maybe? I loved them and was disappointed when he couldn’t find another pair after they wore out. Not exactly chic, but I thought they were cool. :P

If they were in style, I’d probably wear them. Right now, I just have my laces tied and slide my feet into them. Haven’t tied my laces for 3 months, but the back is starting to deteriorate.

"but the back is starting to deteriorate. "

Yeah, mine are quickly entering Derelicte territory. I figure I still have a few months left before the back damage becomes visible when I have my shoes on.
