Foot issues begin early; by the time one notices the changes, it is too late. When I did not have a large shoe budget, I would buy one well-made pair and wear it until it fell apart.

I just received my Kuru shoes. If they help, I’ll give a hollar back here. They do seem comfortable at least.
There are a lot of different models of Hokas. I would recommend Bondi 4 or Stinson. I also like Clifton 3.
Two under-40 XC coaches I talked to about a year ago both said the Hoka Clifton had really helped their PF. I like the Clifton a lot, pre-ordered the original actually, but I don’t know what it is about them that would help with PF since I don’t have that issue myself. Just passing on some anecdotal info since a few have mentioned Hoka.
I know several folks, including my husband, who have found great relief from PF from Hokas. It’s because of the over-sized cushioning.
Another PF sufferer here. I never walk barefoot, I’m careful to replace my running shoes frequently, and I stretch my feet and calves a lot. I haven’t had a significant flareup for about three years though. I’ve tried all kinds of expensive shoes but years ago I stumbled on the Yellow Box brand of flip flops during my last big flareup. The base is made of a soft rubber that has just enough give to mold to my feet and support my arches. I can’t wear every style; some are too flat or the sole is too thin. I love these things, and can sometimes get them for under $20…and they last an impressively long time. I can walk for miles and stand for hours. I’m sure I’m some kind of freakish outlier to have found such relief from these, but they work better for my feet than anything actually marketed to PF sufferers.
^^do those flip flops give enough arch support? They must for you, for that price, I’m going to try it.
@rom828 …it’s tough to give up those flats. I bought 3 or 4 pairs of cute sandals this summer. I might try Dr. Rosenberg arch supports to just wear them if I go out someplace for just a few hours and not all day, and will be sitting most of the time…like at a restaurant. Those arch supports aren’t the most comfy laying flat…but it will do the trick short term. I just hate to get rid of something that looks perfect with a particular outfit. I do realize that wearing them all day now will be in the past.
Yes, @conmama, for me they do work. Definitely a YMMV thing though.
@conmama I know Vionics are pricey, but they do last. Every pair I’ve purchased is still in good condition. I try to buy them on QVC when they’re the TSV (today’s special value) to get a bit of a price break.
I love the booties I recently received and can’t wait to wear them! In Merlot!!! http://www.qvc.com/Vionic-Orthotic-Suede-Ankle-Boots—Anne.product.A280198.html?sc=A280198-Targeted&cm_sp=VIEWPOSITION--4--A280198&catentryImage=http://images.qvc.com/is/image/a/98/a280198.001?$uslarge$
In person, the snake-printed leather in the back looks great!
And I’m totally coveting these in the gray animal print… http://www.qvc.com/Vionic-Orthotic-Leather-Ankle-Boots—Windom.product.A279946.html?recommendationLocation=1&referringItem=A280198&recommendationTypeId=IOFFER&sc=DTLR
(Wish they’d go on sale or TSV!)
I have had plantar fasciitis for close to a year. I really didn’t think I would ever be able to walk normally again…until summer came and out came my Birkenstocks. What a difference !
I am a bit worried about the cold weather coming , but for now, I can walk and stand with no pain at all
@lje62 here ya go. http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/birkenstock-sarnia-boot-women/4319535?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&fashioncolor=TAUPE%20LEATHER
If only they came in a narrow width.
I am laughing so hard!

For those times, when a wool sock is not warm enough. B-) LOL!!
How does anything with 2"+ heels like the Vionics boots posted above help with PF? Those keep your calves in a shortened position for long periods of time and tight calves are one of the common causes of PF.
@mom2collegekids …I did decide to keep the vionic flip-flops. They did come in a wide, and fit my foot well. I’m sure I’ll be happy I have them next summer. Just hard to swallow $75 for something that looks so basic and uninteresting.
I’m IN LOVE with those Birkenstock boots in post #90!!!

This is the one I want!
I had PF for several years, about fifteen years ago. It took aggressive, consistent treatment/prevention to make it go away, but it did, and I haven’t had PF since. Here’s what I did: foot strengthening exercises (gather a towel with your toes, pick up marbles with your toes); wore Yoga Toes to sleep; put on high heels when going to the bathroom during the night (keeps you from accidentally traumatizing your tendons while you’re half asleep, plus it enhances your romantic life); lost weight; did alternating ice/hot water baths three times a day (really helps); stopped wearing high heels AT ALL and started wearing well-padded running shoes with minimal heel lift regardless of where I was going (including to funerals and formal dinners); lost more weight; did stair stretches for the achilles; started walking a lot more.
At this point, if I wear heels of any height for more than about fifteen minutes, my PF flares for two or three days afterwards–so I don’t do it anymore. It’s just not worth it, and I now put heels in the same category as “when I’m an old woman, I shall wear purple with a red hat that doesn’t go.”
I swear by Kenkoh sandals for my PF. I wear them everywhere (even to a funeral last week by mistake … Forgot to switch them out with my dressy ones before I went into the funeral home). I’ve never paid $100 for sandals in my entire life … Until these. Best investment ever!
Well…the first birk boots posted…those tan ones…are much nicer than the sandals, in my opinion. They look like…well…regular boots!
Sorry, BB…but those Danbury…not so much so!
My sister is a teacher who is on her feet most of the day. She had purchased some Kurus that she loves and swears by. My D is a happy camper because sis just gave her 5 new pair of Prada flats and loafers because she cannot wear then (she would put them on and take them back off because her feet hurt too much).
