i’m pretty mad right now, and no i don’t want your guys sympathy since i know there’s a chance (slim?) that there are people who have it worse than me but…

i just got back from the hospital and turns out i’m exhibiting early symptoms of the flu… less than 2 weeks before finals, and on top of that i’m trying to be tap certified so i need to write two 12 page research papers, study 8 chapters for 5 classes, get caught up on notes since i wont be able to make it to school, do outside research that requires i go to the zoo and more i can’t think of right now… and it doesn’t help that my physician told me:

“less than 1% of the population gets the flu…don’t listen to the news they’re blowing things out of proportion…” haha how lucky am i?!

and

“you’re going to be sick, there’s NOTHING you can do about it but sleep and drink lots of fluids” um, thanks.

3.46 GPA (3.5 or 3.55 by end of fall HOPEFULLY)
tap certified by spring hopefully
ucla, cal, usc hopeful
poli sci major

i think i’m destined for failure, but w/e i’ma go back to bed now.

I’m currently in the Navy right now, and to my understanding there is currently a SEAL in Bethesda Naval Medical Center right now who is a quadriplegic. Paralyzed from the neck down.

You’ll survive, I promise! I had the swine flu in late September and it wasn’t fun. Unfortunately I also had a major project at work I needed to deal with so I kept going into the office. It was a really awful five days, and then it turned into pneumonia. Good times!

I know you’re stressed and not feeling great, but think of how good you’ll feel once the semester is over. Do as much as you can but concentrate on your health, maybe take two days to focus on recovering and then go back to the books if you’re feeling a bit better.

this is a college discussion forum; therefore, this thread is directed towards OTHER COLLEGE STUDENTS who may have gone through a similar experience - and no one else.

if you properly read the first part of my post you would see that i mentioned there was a possibility of other people having it worse than me…by people i meant other college students.

i’m not (that) stupid. i understand what’s going on overseas, and what i’m going through is NOTHING compared to what our armed forces have been/are going through, and unless those SEALS whom you mentioned are currently active in school and are on the verge of finals week - i see no place for you to mention them here.

I had the flu midsemester and one of my teachers thought I lied about, went from being a cool guy to grading the stuffing out of my calc tests. but ya, go get yourself a grip of vitamin C drinks, and drink way more water than you normally would.

if the full on flu comes on you’ll be down in bed for 2-3 days MINIMUM. I was down for 4 days, with an additional 3 in la la land because of the flu medicine they gave me.

doctor’s notes are helpful too, some teachers think of the doctor’s note as your way of showing that you respect them and their class.

Suck it up! Do you really think everyone else is skipping around and not stressing? EVERYONE goes through rough times…most people are crazy busy… you’re not the only one!! I mean try your best and that’s all you can do…it’s during times like this where a student can either take a turn for the worst or work hard and get through the difficult times… this is the difference between a successful student and a failure.
