Verizon administrative settlement

I received an email from Venmo that Verizon Administrative Settlement Administrator paid me $13.92. I never had Verizon, nor did I submit a claim for the class action lawsuit.

Short Google search does show the payments were made to Venmo and Paypal. While I am happy to transfer the $13.92 into my account, part of me worries this is a scam to get access to my checking account which is attached to my Venmo account.

Might Verizon be including people outside of their own customers? Maybe if I received text or phone calls from Verizon customers? How would Verizon have my Venmo info; although I guess they could send by phone number. Or, maybe someone typoed and put in my phone number?

Did anyone else receive money that did not have Verizon?

Two articles I found:

Ignore the previous post. Looks like I submitted a claim for my mother, who does have a Verizon cell phone last January. Looked back in my email and found the claim which shows Venmo as the preferred method of payment.

Not sure I am more relieved it wasn’t a scam, or that I am not totally losing it! After posting and thinking about it, I wondered if I applied for my mother as I handle all her bills. Looked back at my inbox, and sure enough, there was the claim form submission.

Got venmo payment of $14 and change today and I had submitted a claim.

I got $14.81 - found the info in the junk folder - and managed to add the virtual gift card to my Apple Wallet. Rather proud of myself for figuring it out; it seems I’m getting a handle on the class action settlement gift cards. Now I just have to remember to use it :joy:.

Thanks, I saw that in my email and scrolled by.
