VERY Difficult School Selection....UT Austin vs IU

j

UT Austin is the harder school to get into, especially for out of state and more prestigious. Kelley at Indiana sends a lot of students to NYC for finance, but I doubt UT Austin, with its extremely high rankings, is bad at that. UT Austin might send more people to finance firms in Houston/Austin, though. Both schools party hard. I’d pick the cheaper option. Both are similar enough that if you are smart, get good grades, and make connections through joining a fraternity you will do well come recruiting season.

If you know 50+ kids at Indiana maybe that would be better since you will find it easier to make friends/get into parties, though if you’re social I doubt it would be hard at UT Austin. Finance has a good, prestigious name at IU Kelley, I heard, and there’s an Investment Banking Workshop that Wall Street firms hire straight out of, so if you get in you’re set. If you don’t get into this workshop, there’s much less prestige associated with the Kelley name to top Wall Street firms. Both schools are really good choices. Good luck!

Disclaimer: I’m a high school senior and don’t really know what I’m talking about, except that I researched these schools and their finance prestige last year when I was deciding what schools to apply to.

Are you in-state for either? From your other thread you come from a low income family and would not get merit aid at either place. Have you been accepted to both?

What major?
