Very Very Low GPA :(

3.0 GPA (4.0 junior year)…I obviously messed up badly my 1st two years.
32 ACT
Live In MA
Moved from Italy in 6th grade
Good amount of EC’s

I’d like recommendations as to where i should apply but here are the schools I am looking at.

Penn State (#1 choice!)
Pitt
U-conn
Syracuse
OSU
MSU
PACE
BU
U-MASS-Amherst
University of Arizona
University of Alabama

I’d love to go somewhere in Cali but I realize my stats obviously won’t get me accepted anywhere there :(

Thanks so much, I really Appreciate it!

I’m pretty sure you can get accepted into Cal State Fullerton, or a low reach on UC Irvine. Do you have any extracurricular activities?

Chance me?

UC-Irvine? I thought i would have no chance there, I’m might apply there now. Thanx. and yea sure i’ll chance you.

You could definately get into the University of Arizona. I live in Tucson, and pretty much everyone gets accepted there + merit scholarships. But, I’m in-state. But I still think you could get in just fine.

I don’t know much about the other schools.

I have another question, If i take CC courses over this summer, are the grades i recieve in these courses weighted in my gpa (do they affect it whatsoever?)

I really need somone to chance me to penn state, really nervous!

Does CC stand for college credit? If so, such as AP classes, I know it is counted towards your GPA. But since you’re taking it during the summer, I’m not 100% positive, cause I personally dont think that it’s a good idea taking a college level class during the summer. But since you have to raise your GPA, I guess there’s really no choice, and overall, I’m pretty sure it will count towards your GPA. BTW, about UC Irvine, you shoudl definitely consider applying, but also have lots of back up plans… cause I did say it was a low reach, no offense.

lol yea i realized that. Yea for cc i meant community college…

I don’t think they will affect your GPA, but I think they’d definately help your application. It show’s that you take initiative. At least, I’m almost positive my school doesn’t do that–unless you’re taking the cc courses in place of options at your school. I’m REALLY not sure.

I’d say my best advice to you is to take a strong senior year, also. You did great on the ACT, but you don’t want to make it look like you’re a bright student but not very motivated, since that’s what I would see INITIALLY. But I think showing an upward trend in your grades would really help your application. Plus, the CC courses, could really help you out. :)

Good luck!

With your upward trend and great ACT score, I don’t see why you wouldn’t be in at U-Mass Amherst.
Even if the CC classes don’t factor in to your GPA, they could still demonstrate your ability to make high grades in college.
Do you have a good story to explain why your grades were so low the first two years?

Thanks alot, I really really appreciate it!

My grandma died and I was in italy for about a month during sohmore year but i cant use that as an excuse I just really screwed up :(

u didn’t chance me!!!

I did lol…

Penn State is not that difficult to get in. About 10~20 kids from our high school(public) get into Penn State; I am from PA. Especially, if you can pull it up to 4.0 and have 32 ACT.

how can i pull it up to a 4.0 I would die to do that lol

“Moved from Italy in 6th grade”
no one cares.

your ACT score is good for all of those schools but if something will keep you out, i’ll be that GPA. if you have a good reason that it was low, have a counselor write a letter about it or something. don’t let that ruin ur chances of getting into a good school. your upward trend and good ACT score show that you’re smart.

Thanks for all the replies!

Can anyone please chance me at penn state/pitt/u-conn?

Thanks.

:( anyone?
