One of my pup’s eyes has been tearing for a couple of days. (I noticed it yesterday.) My first thought was allergies but it’s definitely just one eye. This is not a breed that is prone to runny eyes (elkhound). Should I take him in or give it a couple days? (I realize it’s a holiday weekend. :() I never seem to get out of the vets’ office for under a hundred dollars.

One of our dogs had a runny eye with some discharge, which turned red over time. Like a human he had an eye infection and needed drops. He has had the infection one other time, but I still had the drops and saved on the second vet visit.

I would take him in because if you wait and have to go to an E-vet, you will pay twice as much. That said, give it another day; he may have just gotten something in the eye and it is irritated. Is there any discharge? Maybe some warm compresses and rinse the eye out with some saline. For some reason my little one has trouble with getting his own hair in his eye which make his paw at his eyes. I just use a warm cloth and usually all is better.
