Veteran's Advantage, for Discount on United Flights & medical insurance--experience?

Just wondering if anyone has had experience with Veteran’s Advantage. The program claims to give 5% discount on UAL flights and travel insurance. Had not heard of it before and am hoping to learn whether people have had positive (or negative) experiences before I sign up. My dad is a vet, so I would qualify under their rules.

Thanks

Give it a go. For the most part, you can beat the discount if you are looking for bargains, but where it becomes useful is when there are only higher priced seats/flights left , and you absolutely need to go somewhere during a certain time slot. My brother used it to visit us, and it brought down the cost of a $900 flight somewhat. He had a narrow window to come visit my mother, and that was the best price available. Usually, he could do a lot better than how that discount works by getting cheap flights way ahead of time or finding something that just costs a lot less, but sometimes you do get caught with the market price that’s up there, and 5% is nothing to sneeze at.
