Veterans Day

Since this is the official holiday for Veterans Day (and I was away from a computer most of yesterday), I wanted to say thanks to all those veterans, parents, families, friends and supporters who are/have been involved with those in the military. Your efforts should be honored and appreciated.

I spent 4 years in the Army many years ago. While I don’t think of those times very often, there are a few times when I think more about those years, and even more about the people we currently have overseas. May they return home safely.

I spent most of the weekend visiting my son at college for Dad’s Weekend. It was nice to visit with him and his friends, see the home team (and alma mater) win a football game, and to see the Doobie Brothers in concert. I’m glad I had the chance to do this.

I appreciate the Veterans too, but I wonder if schools should really give us the day off. I doubt that many people my age (14-18, HS age) really think about the meaning of the holiday. I know most of us (I’m guilty of this as well) think “OMG NO SCHOOL!” And leave it at that.

I also find it interesting that we get the presidents’ birthdays off, but do nothing in remembrance of 9/11. Kinda sad. :(
