vic theatre-chicago?

So I may have an opportunity to attend a very special concert in this theatre next week
Anyone familiar?
What neighborhood is it in- which hotels?

and which airport is easier access?
I have flown very little- total newbie- will be coming from Seattle

It’s at 3145 N. Sheffield, which about 4 miles north of downtown and slightly west. It’s roughly equidistant from both O’Hare and Midway airports, about 14 miles.

There are trains from O’Hare (Blue line) and Midway (Orange line, I think) to downtown, and you can take a cab from there. You can also take a bus/ Red Line train from downtown to get you v.close to the Vic, if you feel adventurous (get off at the Belmont stop and walk a couple of blocks west to Sheffield & Belmont, turn south on Sheffield; the Vic should be right there)

You can go to Yahoo!Maps or a similar website, and search for
3145 N Sheffield Ave Chicago, IL 60657

do I even need to rent a car?
appreciate any help- we have dial up so research can be a PITA
;)

If all you’re doing is flying in and going to the Vic, or other things in the central area of Chicago, no, you don’t have to rent a car. Parking is expensive/no fun, and you can get a 24- or 48-hour public transportation pass for relatively cheap (like $6/day, I think) right at the airports.

Don’t rent a car. Traffic can be a nightmare in Chicago. Easy to get there by CTA or cab.

If you want recommendations for dining–in the neighborhood, or nearby let me know. Try to stay in a hotel near Michigan Ave or the Loop (downtown)
and you will have other things to do.
