I am not much of a techy, so I need advice from those who “know” and actually “do”.

We want to be able to chat with D and see her at the same time :)

D is in college in Boston. She uses a mac laptop and is pretty savvy with how to operate it. We are in So Cal and have a pc desk top. I am pretty sure her computer is already set up to do this, so we just need to get the hardware on this end. What do we need to buy and what software or programs do we need to make it happen.

I’d like help on this too! Kids have Macs that are set up … I recently bought a pc laptop with built in video chat ability but haven’t been able to make it work with them (or anyone!)

We have done this. But my H is in Germany, and he’s the techie one, so I can’t provide too many details.

I know we used Skype, and have a cheap microphone and a cheap camera. The camera is one my H bought when digital first came out - I think he paid $25 for it, or so, and it doesn’t have a flash or any sort of light meter, and we have to shine another light directly on our faces when we use it. But it does have the capacity to work as an Internet camera. If your D has a camera that will work, you can set it up so you can see her, even if she can’t see you. H won’t be home till next week, so I can’t ask him for details.

If you Google skype internet camera, you’ll get a lot of different options that work. They are all a lot higher tech than what we used, and I’m sure they produce a lot better picture, but they cost a lot more too.
