<p>My S’s roomate is gone almost every weekend and claims that he’s going to to all these tournaments at other colleges (PA area). He doesn’t even have a gaming system in the dorm room so I’m a little suspicious. He’s a good roomate and son doesn’t mind having the privacy on the weekend. Are there really gaming tournaments going on in colleges?</p>
<p>There’s a bunch of them all over the U.S. throughout the year–NJ, PA, NV, etc. (most of these are for semi-pro or pros) I know my school has a few school organized tournaments for everyone, but we haven’t had any yet, so if he said he went to Temple, he’s likely lying. I dont know what he’s claiming, but a tournament could just be organized by college kids for a few people.</p>
<p>Perhaps it’s PC gaming and not console gaming.</p>
<p>Or maybe he’s just nailing some girl and being nice enough not to bring her back to the dorm.</p>
<p>Depending on the game, there are tons of tournaments going on all over the place, sometimes very frequently. A lot of these are organized by people/students/etc. Obviously, the really big tournaments (for any game) will only take place a few times a year, but there are smaller year-round tourneys for most games as well.</p>
<p>Why does it matter?</p>
<p>It’s not that big of a deal, but he’s missing out on things at his own school every weekend. As long as he’s not addicted to gaming or gambling away his college money, the only thing he’s losing on on is making new friends at his own university.</p>
<p>Still, it seems to me that it should really be none of your concern. Has your son expressed worries to you about what his roommate might be doing?</p>

<p>He could be going to Magic or Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments. They’re still pretty popular but I could see why his roommate wouldn’t want to be more specific when it comes to what he is doing, because those card tournaments are pretty high on the dork scale.</p>
